Barbie Diewald Choreography opens its inaugural season with Pare. Two years in the making, this forty minute dance work interweaves formal constructions and deliberate unraveling drawing from two primary experiences: Diewald's personal loss of her childhood home in a fire, and the #metoo movement as a crisis point for women. Pare foregrounds intimate physical contact as a means both of reshaping trauma and imagining alternatives to hierarchical relationships. Led by Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellow Barbie Diewald, the company is comprised of professional dancers Jenny Bennett, Leah Fournier, Kate Martel, Katie Martin, and Sarah Lass, with guest performer Madison Baptiste. Pare features a live electronic score performed by composer Jazer Giles.
