With beautiful cinematography, RAFIKI is a tender love story between two young women in Kenya, a country that criminalizes LGBTQ people. Feeling a strong attraction, Kena and Ziki become fast friends who encourage each other’s feminist dreams of college and careers. When they fall in love, they face severe homophobia and must find a new way to live their lives. RAFIKI has won international acclaim and awards but it is still banned in Kenya because it “overtly promotes lesbianism.” Watch this beautiful film in honor of all LGBTQ Kenyans who cannot watch RAFIKI and who are denied the basic right to love who they want to love.
