Peter Paul Van Camp, is a much loved and well-remembered figure from the late 70's, early 80's Cdn Folk Festival circuit. He left the road life a few decades ago and has only recently resumed his touring. He and I are old friends and when we were offered a rare one-off chance to perform together last Fall we both jumped at it, although having never worked together as duo before, had no idea what to expect. We sat together and took turns, Peter Paul reading his extraordinary poems, and me singing a few songs and reading passages from my memoir. The contrast between his persona as a shy, bookish somewhat nerdy small town aesthete in a bow tie and mine as a dissipated, world weary and occasionally vulgar relic of a folk singer led to a lot of laughter. Backstage after the show, we looked at each other and said, at the same time, "We have to do this again." So we are. I am thrilled about this and am so looking forward to seeing if we can make lightning strike again.
