Steve Dawson's Funeral Bonsai Wedding

Steve Dawson, leader of Chicago folk-rock quintet, Dolly Varden, has put together a new group with three of the city's most revered improvising musicians: Jason Adasiewicz, Frank Rosaly, and Jason Roebke. This new band, Funeral Bonsai Wedding, will release it's debut album in late September. The songs seek to find a common ground between Dawson's folk-rock based narrative songwriting and singing, and the expansive push and pull of these brilliant improvising musicians. This concert will celebrate the release of the album. For this show the band will play as a trio, without drummer Frank Rosaly.

"Few Chicago singer-songwriters have been as solid for as long as Steve Dawson and part of the reason has to be that he’s never changed his impeccably crafted mix of twang, soul, and pop in order to follow a trend. He writes great songs and sings them beautifully. On songs like the harrowingly beautiful 'Mastodons,' emotional darkness lurks beneath the grace..." - Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader

Cave States

On April 30, 2016, Cave States will release their second album, True Life. The new album marks a decidedly more elaborate approach to composition while retaining many of the same aesthetics established in the bands’ debut album. Writer Steve Pick calls True Life, “A masterful follow-up to The Great Divide, a richer, more complex affair that never loses the intimacy and honesty of the debut.”

Cave States is a collaboration between songwriters, Chris Grabau, Danny Kathriner and Todd Schnitzer. The band includes John Higgins, Joey Dresslaer, and Eric Hensley. For over 20 years, the members of Cave States have led or supported a number of well-known St. Louis bands including Magnolia Summer, Half Knots, Nadine, Colonel Ford, Wagon, The Missouri Rounders, The Flying Mules, and The Homegrown Harvest Band. However, Cave States is their first songwriting collaboration.
