Ages and Ages

Ages and Ages

Ages and Ages began in the winter of 2009, when singer/guitarist Tim Perry set out to assemble a band large enough to pull off every intricate detail of even the most heavily layered arrangements in a live setting. Starting with Daniel Hunt on Drums, Kate O'Brien-Clarke on keys/strings, and Rob Oberdorfer on bass, AaA grew fast until it peaked at seven members strong. Perry even enlisted the talents of childhood friend, Graham Mackenzie, who uprooted from his home in NYC to join the band in its rainy Portland town. There, the rest of the band shared in their affinity for complex vocal harmonies, rounds, call and response, and a whole lot of percussion, which became apparent as the band continued to amass a catalogue of songs in which everybody played multiple roles.

In early 2010, Ages and Ages enlisted the help of Kevin Robinson (Viva Voce, Blue Giant) to record/produce a six song EP in exchange for a case of beer. Robinson held true to their live aesthetic (though he eventually raised the price for his services) utilizing minimal tracks and even less takes to capture their sound. Soon after, Knitting Factory Records got a hold of their recordings and expressed an interest in signing the band but suggested that they turn their EP into a full length. AaA obliged and by that summer had completed their first album. "Alright, You Restless" is set for release on KFR in early 2011.
