Boogie Woogie Piano Tuesday Featuring Wendy Fitz

Pianist Wendy Fitz began studying in a small coastal community in Southern California with Peg Thompson at age five. She later took up singing and joined her first band, The Kingbeats, and played High School dances, private parties and toured with the Tom Braden campaign for Lieutenant Governor of California.

Wendy's influences range from Prof. Longhair to Carol King, Floyd Kramer to Patsy Cline. You will find hints of George Jones and a glimmer of Bonnie Raitt. She likes music simple, soulful, direct and honest.

Wendy has been playing and singing with some of the best bands in Marin for two decades and has now added solo performances to her schedule. She has played classic country with Rough Country and western swing with The Loaded Ponies, Blues with Chuck Day and the Burning Sensations, Classic R&B with The Jeb Brady Band and a strange sort of folk with Pack of Wolves.

As a singer Wendy excels, whether in solo voice or in harmony with one or more of the marvelous singers she works with. Powerful and rich in depth, her voice ranges through tender and sweet ballads to hard-edged, smoky honky-tonk, from spooky to fun Wendy is a versatile vocalist.

She is working solo regularly in Marin and San Francisco. Often joined by such local voices as Jeb Brady and Gary Bauman, Chuck Day, Cathleen Riddley and Doug Adams, her performances are varied and dynamic and the harmonies are sweet.

Recently, Wendy has been recording with The Jeb Brady Band, Pack of Wolves and some tunes as a trio with John Molloy and Tim Bush, as well as working with young children as staff accompanist with Music Makers, a Marin based program founded by Cindy Cohen, to introduce very young children to music and performance and to fill some of the void left by budget cuts to the arts in schools.
