Josh Berwanger (The Anniversary)

JOSH BERWANGER is likely best known as the singer/guitarist from early 2000s band The Anniversary, but in the years since the band's sudden breakup he's never ceased writing and playing music. His latest effort, Strange Stains (out via Good Land Records), sees him teaming up with Michael Hutcherson, original drummer for The Anniversary, to create sun-drenched, dreamy Petty-esque pop complete with lyrics that deal in the exact opposite sort of themes - loneliness, fear and frustration.

Josh spent the past few years coaching high-school basketball in Lawrence, Kansas while writing and recording the 11 tracks on Strange Stains. Although at times he was tempted to give up chasing his musical dreams, he ultimately realized that hanging up his guitar was something he was never meant to do. The songs on Strange Stains reflect these struggles - their sweet, catchy melodies belie a record that is about "love, heartbreak, idiots and continuing to pursue what you love to do, no matter how hard that shit is," as Josh explains it.

Mixed and mastered by Paul Mahern (Blake Babies, Afghan Whigs, Okkervil River, Iggy Pop, The Fray), Strange Stains also features a slew of guest musicians including Jim McPherson (The Breeders, Guided By Voices), TK Webb (TK Webb and the Visions), Brandon Phillips (The Architects) and Heidi Gluck (Julianna Hatfield).
