The Lucky Ones CD Release with Darrin Craig, The Junebugs

The Lucky Ones

Country music has assuredly had its fair share of duos, but it has yet to see anything like The Lucky Ones. Born east of the Rockies but bred in the Pacific Northwest, The Lucky Ones have laid claim to Portland, Oregon, and created a sound where country meets everything from rock and bluegrass to R&B and dance--all pressed through a pop filter. Rich and identifiable, the pair's dynamic songwriting moves from breezy, slick cuts like "Country Girls" to reflective ballads like “So Many Words,” without ever forgetting the long southern love affair with the six string. The Lucky Ones effortlessly combine the twosome’s wide-ranging influences into a polished, lively and exciting sound all their own while never taking themselves too seriously.

The Lucky Ones debut album, Waiting For The Rain is scheduled for release on November 9th, 2013. All of the tracks were co-written by Holder and Wheatley and produced by Holder, including the first single "Riding High." The duo went searching for the experimental side of country, and found pop, dance and southern rock, taking country all the way to the West Coast without forgetting its roots.

Some bands look to change your life. The Lucky Ones are looking to change your mood, turn one drink into three, and let Friday night creep into Saturday morning.--

Darrin Craig

Originally hailing from Kansas, Darrin Craig has been a singer and songwriter in the Northwest bluegrass outfit Jackstraw for 13 years. As a founding member of the band, Craig has toured the US and shared bills with bluegrass greats such as Del McCoury and Tim O'Brien. In 2007, he began writing and recording with Portland based Meridian. The Portland Mercury calls Meridian's "booze-soaked country balladry…given heart-aching credence by Craig's ragged voice…a beautiful thing." Darrin Craig can also be seen with The Portland Country Underground.

The Junebugs

Imagine if you put R. Kelly through a banjo.

Led by frontman and beard enthusiast Moses Barrett, The Junebugs combine high-energy pop with Pacific Northwest folksy goodness to create a genre-bending sound you can kick up your heels to.

The Junebugs originated on the Vancouver, BC circuit before migrating south to Portland, OR. There, guitarist Barrett picked up drummer Kyle Owen and bassist Sean Vinson, equally bearded and hailing from impressive musical backgrounds. Covering everything from Tom Petty to TLC to Lorde, the eclectic taste of the trio ranges from turn-of-the-century Americana to modern Hip Hop, with a strong emphasis on vocal harmony. Their original tunes have a dreamy, sweet quality reminiscent of Neil Young and Iron & Wine, peppered with fiery banjo lines. There is something for everyone here.

“The American songbook is alive and well, and it didn’t end in the 1950’s,” Barrett says.
