Anthony B.

Anthony B (born Keith Blair) is the living personification of Afrikan consciousness in Reggae. His single "Nah vote again" was a major factor in making the Jamaican elections of Thursday, December 18 1997, the most peaceful one since the insidious cancer of gun violence was introduced in West and Central Kingston, prior to the elections of 1967. Like his hero, Peter Tosh, the most revolutionary of the Wailing Wailers, he is an uncompromising Pan Afrikanist, in the tradition of Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jamaica's first national hero and the founder and leader of the largest Afrikan organization ever, the Universal Negro Improvement Association and Afrikan Communities League, U.N.I.A. and A.C.L. The traditional route of most Afrikan singers is via the church and Anthony B is no exception. Growing up in Clarks Town in the parish of Trelawny (a parish noted for the heroic Afrikan freedom fighters, the Maroons, who defeated the English military), his Revivalist grandmother and Seventh Day Adventist mother, immersed him in the singing, call and response and clapping mechanics of rural Jamaica. In this rural environment that Afrikan culture is best found and preserved in Jamaica, not Kingston nor urban St. Andrew.

Rian Basillio and The Roosters

In a culture where image and material value weigh heavier on a musician s success than actual talent or
creed, a young man from a small town on the island of Hawaii, has set out to resurrect the conscious music and
harmonious spirit of an era not so long ago, yet long forgotten. Rian Basilio and The Roosters are a group in which a
perfect combination of talent and soul has come together to create a unique and very progressive sound. While
keeping the foundation of their music rooted deeply in the classic genres of reggae, they have been able to fuse
elements of each musician s unique background and style, cultivating a vibe that feels vintage yet completely fresh
and original. Rian s unique voice only intensifies his already poetic and deeply personal lyrics, which touch upon
subjects from world and political turmoil to equally important issues of the heart and soul. The narrative and
messages that exist within his lyrics are delivered to the listener through haunting melodies and hooks that will
linger in the sub-conscious long after the song has ended.

In Aug. of 2011 they released their debut album, self titled "Rian Basilio and The Roosters" along with a
video for their first single, "Long Road to Zion". Long Road to Zion has since gone on to have radio rotation on
Oahu and the Big Island, as well as constant rotation with online stations such as Surf Roots Radio and Pipeline to
Paradise Radio. Long Road to Zion has over 14,000 views on youtube and the video has also appeared on TV in
Hawaii. The success of the album and single has propelled the band to the forefront of reggae acts in the US
southwest and Hawaiian music scenes. The band has recently headed back into the studio to begin production of
their sophomore album. With 2 years of writing and arranging under their belts, they look to record an album that
not only showcases their unique style of reggae, but more importantly they look to ignite a revolution of conscious,
positive music into a culture that has long been deprived of it.

The Roosters are also no amateurs when it comes to live performance. Members have played and toured
with reggae legends such as Lee Scratch Perry, Eek a Mouse, Barrington Levy, Michael Rose, The Wailing Souls, HR of
Bad Brains, The Rastafarians, Detour Posse, Haile Maskel and many more. As The Roosters , they have played and
toured all over central and southern California as well as Nevada and Arizona. They have graced the stages of iconic
venues like The Roxy in Hollywood, LA s Dub Club and The House of Blues in San Diego. From the moment they step
on stage, they come full force with an energy that can ignite the masses. Whether its hardcore roots infused with
dub step, or up beat rocksteady vibes mixed with soulful r&b, The Roosters deliver a message and spread a vibe
that is sure to open your mind and leave your soul irie!
