15 Short Film Festival

15 Short Film Festival

The 11th annual 15 Short Film Festival will be held at the Evening Muse in Charlotte, North Carolina, NODA on Sunday, October 9 2016. Doors will open at 630pm and the screenings will begin at 700pm promptly. Tickets are $10 in advance and $14 day of the show.

In a short span of time this film festival has become one of Charlotte's favorites. It has seen four films screened here go on to be nominated for Academy Awards with two - CURFEW (2013) and BEAR STORY (2016) winning the Oscar for Best Live Action short and Best Animated Short respectively. France's Madagascar: A Journey Diary was nominated for a 2011 Best Animated Short Academy Award. Finland's comedy short Do I Have To Do Everything? was nominated for a 2014 Live Action Academy Award

We are 15 ink, a small company formed in 2006 by Charlotte natives and friends Ryan Walker, Antonio Diaz and Keith Whatley. All artists in their own genres; the three came up with the idea to start a film festival in Charlotte like no other. There were several film festivals in Charlotte, but none dedicated to the art of "short" film making. Most filmmakers even ones who have gone on to success started out making short films. So the three decided to do it all on their own with their own financial resources. Of the three only Walker had any experience in film, having attended the University Of Southern California Film School. Whatley and Diaz were local musicians tuned into the mindset of Charlotteans who loved various art mediums.

So 15 was born and out of it the 15 Short Film Festival. The idea was to have filmmakers from anywhere in the world submit their short film works for inclusion into the festival. The films could be no longer than fifteen minutes in length. The response was overwhelming. With help from other film festivals including Robert DeNiro's Tribeca Film Festival and Robert Redford's celebrated Sundance Film Festival; films poured in from all over the world. The group received over 150 submissions from over 20 countries including the US. A jury of local filmmakers, film lovers, artists, and local film critics was sat to sort through the films. Eventually 15 were chosen in five categories: Experimental, Drama, Comedy, Drama, and Animation. The first 15 Short Film Festival was held in September 2006 at the Evening Muse In Charlotte. The event was sold out. The response was great..

This year we received over 1100 films from around the world. We have cut that number down to the final 23 films from 25 countries. We look forward to working with you to get press on our event. If you need anymore information, film press kits, high res images, please let me and my staff know. Below are links to everything. We are also available for interviews. Thanks!
