Grex, Cash Pony
Inner Ear Brigade, Mark Clifford Quartet
500 4th Street
San Francisco, CA, 94107
This event is 21 and over
Tiny Mix Tapes calls Grex "essential current-and-future listening," a "near-seamless blend of modern jazz, contemporary structuralist composition, indie rock, and blues rock." Grex is not just "eclectic"--it synthesizes all of its influences into songs that are unique, fun, and endlessly surprising; fans of English prog rock (Henry Cow, Robert Wyatt), creative jazz (Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis), and Bay Area noise rock (Deerhoof, tUnE-yArDs) will find plenty to enjoy in Grex's twisted, mighty music.
Local prog/rock outfit w/ sitar, indebted to Fred Frith, Frank Zappa, and Robert Fripp.
Inner Ear Brigade
Inner Ear Brigade (IEB) is an ensemble of musicians based in the San Francisco Bay Area who play a unique mix of progressive rock, jazz, and experimental pop, all delivered through their originally detailed compositions and arrangements. They recently released their 2nd full length album “Dromology”. The music is “fun, happy, accessible, and proggy.” Steeped with a vintage analog sensibility, effects processing, and synthesizers, IEB crafts their sounds from “ RIO elements (Rock In Opposition), Canterbury (Sound), and Zappa”. IEB is Bill Wolter (guitar and compositions), Ivor Holloway (sax), Andrew Jamieson (keyboards), Stephen Wright (bass), Alison Niedbalski (vocals) and Christopher Lauf (drums).
