This event is 21 and over
Calvin Play is a New York City based R&B singer-songwriter. He attended the Professional Performing Arts High School (alumni include Alicia Keys and Britney Spears) in Midtown Manhattan for Vocal Performance. He is also a student at the prestigious New York University studying Music and Economics. Calvin has performed on stages such as Carnegie Hall, The Standard Hotel, and the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.
In June of 2014, he performed an iconic jazz set at the legendary NYC nightclub “Le Bain” at the Standard Hotel. Most critics compare his voice to the late-soultry Luther Vandross, King of the Bass Barry White, and R&B legend, Marvin Gaye.
On an international level, Calvin has performed and recorded in Tallinn, Oslo, Tokyo, Bergen, Jamaica, Bermuda, Paris, London, and Milan. He is currently wrapping up his second EP, which is schedule to be released in June of this year.
He says his upbringing in Saint Albans, Queens, New York has really humbled him and allowed him to keep his humility in an industry where it’s easy to lose sight of. Calvin pays homage to his grandfather for always introducing him to different genres of music.
He says this new project will be a little bit more edgy and in a different direction from his last highly anticipated debut EP titled, “Fly Away.”
New York City Acoustic Duo
Adam Douglass Trio
The Adam Douglass Trio is a powerful resonance of sound coming from three creative and energetic artists bringing a fresh sense of inspiration and creativity to the the audience at large. The group combines the mature influences like Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, John Mclaughlin with the illusory phantasmagoria of groups like Medeski, Martin & Wood, Wayne Krantz, and Uri Caine. As ecclecticly influenced musicians tend to be influenced from seemingly everything that makes a sound, the length of their musical influence roster prints like the list of parket tickets for Jerry Seinfeld. The group comes out of Boston, MA, and released their first cd, SEERSUCKER, in late 2006. During the past few years members of the band have been touring with the trio in the New England area. The Adam Douglass Trio's much anticipated release, Strawberry, is due to embellish more of the delicious grooves, rockin' rhythms, and imbibing solos which establish the band's niche in musical entertainment.
Hasina is not your average anything.
She’s not your average MTV-80’s era love child or a product of the 90’s style teenybopper onslaught. She’s not the average classically trained singer or LaGuardia (aka FAME school) diva alumna. Her background, training, musical influences, style and persona is nothing average. Instead it serves up a tasty smoothie of everything that is soulful, badass, bold, and energizing about music. And with Hasina, you can never tell what she’ll dish up next.
Growing up in Queens, NY Hasina (which means good and strong in Swahili) had talent that was widely recognized and respected. She was accepted into the most rigorous, exclusive music programs in the country: Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and the Performing Arts and the music conservatory at SUNY Purchase. Her technical training in all genres of music, from opera to classical, and love of rock, R&B and pop has developed Hasina into the consummate professional and a versatile singer-songwriter, arranger and composer. She has used that foundation to curve a niche that’s all her own.
In November 2006, Hasina completed her first independent EP 'Welcome' to rave reviews. She has performed at various NYC venues including Don Hill's and The Annex while receiving radio airplay in Philadelphia and Connecticut. Also, she signed on to the Concerts for Change campaign to aid refugees in Darfur. Hasina will release her second EP 'Facing The Night' in May 2008.
So if you are tired of hearing the same hooks, same face, same style, make it a point to make it to the next show – you won’t be disappointed.
