Dance Concert for Shelter Animals

Concert for more Humane Treatment of Shelter Animals
The Goathouse Refuge for Cats and numerous other rescue and animal welfare partners are raising awareness about a problem in North Carolina that is not only tragic for companion animals in shelters, but is an affront to our basic humanity. Despite professional standards of humane euthanasia, many NC county shelters are still using gas chambers and other inhumane methods such as heart stick to destroy unwanted animals. Innocent pets suffer horribly in their last moments, and, as taxpayers, all NC citizens pay the bill for the operation of these public shelters - we all have the right to demand change.
On October 4th, a Dance Concert for Shelter Animals will be held at the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw providing music and inspiration for action to ban gas chambers and adopt humane euthanasia. Robert White, on the bagpipes, will open the evening with a traditional procession. Tres Chicas, a well-known alt-country trio, will headline the show. They will be joined by Mebanesville, a roots/rhythm/world music group, David George, an indie singer/songwriter. Mark Cool & the Cools & other musical acts will be joining in!

Highlights of the evening will include Dr. Michael R. Moyer, V.M.D., past Director of the Shelter Animal Medicine Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, past President of the American Animal Hospital Association sharing why gas chambers should never be used, and Lisa Brockmeier, Fix NC (, on the ongoing effort to remove gas chambers from NC shelters.
