The Moonlighters

The Moonlighters

TThe Moonlighters Jazz band is a seven-piece band whose superb instrumentation combines with heartfelt vocals to ensure memorable performances. Among the impressive credentials of some of the Moonlighters are gigs with internationally renowned performers, including Natalie Cole, Nancy Wilson and Johnny Mathis.
The band plays a combination of jazz standards from the 30's, 40's and 50's (bossa nova, up-tempo, swing, ballads) as well as jazz instrumentals and vocals of contemporary artists.
The Moonlighters have been performing throughout Atlanta since the mid 90's at festivals, clubs, weddings, conferences and benefits.
"We call ourselves the Moonlighters because most of us pursue other professions during the day. Nevertheless, we have all played professionally and share a deep passion for musical moonlighting," said Emory Professor and Bandleader David Kleinbaum (Dr K). "Our sax player, Nikolai Panov -- a computer software specialist by day --- has played professionally worldwide, including a concert in Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow with vibraphonist Dave Samuels. Guitarist Greg Shearer is a full-time faculty member at the Art Institute of Atlanta with an impressive history of performing professionally. Karen Melissas, our talented vocalist who captivates audiences with her interpretations in the style of Billie Holiday, has a day job in sales for Orkin. Bill Ernst, our keyboard player, is a retired professor at Georgia Tech. Bassist Steve Blair is a numbers guy who works as an accountant. And drummer Marshall Choka is a computer software developer when he is not teaching and playing music in the Atlanta area where he has been performing for over thirty years.
