This event is 21 and over
Despite their parents’ pressures to pursue more conventional career paths, Jon Dadon and his youngest brother David couldn’t resist sticking to their passion. David is a recording and mastering engineer in L.A. and Jon is, well, a DJ, a producer, the founder of Music Is 4 Lovers and a co-founder of Lovelife. From jazz to hip-hop and rock, it wasn’t until college that Jon began to dip his toes into the ocean of electronic music where he would soon be immersed. As he hit 21, he started making his way to as many shows as he could – about 2 or 3 per week.
In the summer of 2011, Jon Dadon and Jimbo James combined forces to take a risk and sprinkle a little love on the San Diego nightlife scene. Tired of commercial music and predictable parties, Dadon and James launched Lovelife, a promotion company founded on the principles of progressive music, community, and most importantly, love. They have nurtured a scene in the city, one that would house the ‘Lovers’ that have inevitably grown to be considered family.
Now Jon's career as a DJ has been taking off considerably fast as he has proven to be able to get down with some of the best. This summer alone he has played several venues across Europe and is now back from his travels. So let's show some love for the guy who has been bringing nothing but love and innovative music, cultivating a scene in San Diego that us San Francisco house heads can appreciate as well.
Night Moves is a concept to unite the veteran San Francisco house music vibes with emerging sounds of modern funk, nu-disco, deep house, and boogie. Imagine classic Chicago Trax blended with the current Disco Boogie revival. Podcasts, edits, and club nights will be curated in an effort to break the boundaries in San Francisco’s dance music scene.
San Francisco resident DJ/producer J-Boogie has challenged the boundaries of music across genres, styles, languages and borders throughout his 20 year career. He speaks to his listeners, integrating musical genres like downtempo, hip-hop, dub, soul, reggae, funk, Latin, afro-beat, bhangra, dancehall, disco, dubstep, electro and house music.
You can hear his masterful mix of culture, soul, rhythm and beats through the award-winning radio show “Beatsauce” on KUSF 90.3fm & Brooklynradio.net, earning awards such as "Best Hip–Hop Radio Show" by SF Bay Guardian and "San Francisco’s Best Radio & Club DJ" by citysearch.com.
J-Boogie has also earned himself worldwide success and a global fan base spinning DJ sets in countries like Colombia, India, Japan, and Spain, traveling in both the club and festival scene. He’s been a featured artist at Coachella, Bonnaroo, Bumbershoot, Outside Lands, Treasure Island Festival, Earthdance, Harmony Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Lighting in a Bottle, Sundance, Winter Music Conference, SXSW, Power to the Peaceful, the 2010 Winter Olympics plus tours with Bassnectar, Spearhead, Herbaliser and Widespread Panic.
By popular demand, J-Boogie’s DJ skills have also landed him bookings in world-class clubs such as Turntables on the Hudson, APT, Cielo, Hudson Hotel, The Palms Hotel, Halo, 18th Street Lounge, The Nokia Theatre, Temple Bar, Afro Funke, Root Down, Firecracker, The Do Over, Deep LA and more.
Incorporating musicians and vocalists into a live band/DJ fusion set, J-Boogie has truly re-defined the concept of what it is to be a DJ. He brings this style to life with his band “Dubtronic Science” featuring a full horn section, Latin percussionists and MC’s. Performing as a solo DJ or with the full band, J-Boogie is always guaranteed to get the party started.
You can hear the unique sounds of J-Boogie on a wide array of full length releases, DJ mixes, remixes, edits and compilations. He’s released 5 artist projects on Om Records and is featured prevalently on the Om Lounge and Mushroom Jazz series. He’s also worked with artists such as Alice Russell, Nickodemus, Rich Medina, Lyrics Born, Bassnectar, Ohmega Watts, Zion I, Crown City Rockers, Jazz Mafia, DJ Vadim, Miguel Migs, Goapele, People Under the Stairs, Karsh Kale, Mark Farina, and Vieux Farka Toure. "I play music made by people that moves them. In return it moves me & I transmit that groove to you in my own way. Recently I started making my own music. I have a few releases out, but am only getting started on the production side of things. Music for me is an emotional journey and I enjoy every moment of it." -Buck
