Jonah Smith is that rare musician with the range to write the simplest folk song or an orchestral arrangement and his eight albums of original material display a wealth of American music history that has delighted critics and concertgoers for years. The New York Times perhaps said it best: “Mr. Smith’s folk songs are equally well suited to downtown lounges and rural front porches.” His latest record, “In The Kitchen” (July 2013) is a mostly acoustic album made with guitarist, Andy Stack. The two musicians spent two days running wires and taping microphones to ceilings in Andy’s kitchen in Queens, NY. The idea was to make a record from start to finish with no outside help. The result is an alarmingly high fidelity recording of eight songs that range in topic from love to politics. As a performer, Smith has toured for the last decade on three continents. He has been invited as a guest vocalist with some of his heroes including Los Lobos and Little Feat. As a songwriter he has won an IMA in the folk category for his song “My Morning Scene”. At the end of 2012, Smith relocated from Brooklyn to Los Angeles where he now resides. Jonah will be performing songs from his new album assisted by long-time associate, the multi-instrumentalist, Andy Stack.
Jeff Campbell is a natural, and any lover of music can see that when performing, he is doing what he was born to do.
This young singer-songwriter was brought up in a musical family with constant exposure to artists and performers from the last six decades. These artists have influenced a songwriting style, a mix of raw rock and winding lyrical melodies, which continues to evolve within him through the years.
