Metro-Detroit native Grant Kwiecinski (born May 31st, 1990) better know by his stage name "GRiZ" is an independent American electronic music artist. Begging his career as a classically trained Alto Saxophone and piano player he was attracted to electronic music production at the young age of 14 with a spiked interest in the workings of hip-hop instrumentals and his exposure to IDM (intelligent dance music).
Stylistically, GRiZ creates bass infused hip-hop, electro soul, and future funk sounding productions
often accompanied by the live performance and recording of his Alto Saxophone and the use of an
array of vinyl samples.
GRiZ debuted his first full-length album late summer on Sept 4th '12 titled "Mad Liberation" that has
garnered him major buzz and exposure worldwide, racking up over 40,000+ downloads within it's first 2 weeks of being released, all organically.
2012 has proven that GRiZ is not a name to forget. With the summer being filled with some huge
festival performances including some notable plays at Electric Forest, Coachella, Movement (Detroit
Electronic Music Festival), and Summer Set. He also joined Gramatik for his Digital Freedom tour, as well as some spread-out small headline dates in the mix. Fall 2012 for GRiZ looks to be pretty eventful, jumping on Big Gigantic and Bassnectar's tours, then off playing a small run of his own intimate headline shows across the nation.
Vinyl lover, people hugger.
Combining an array of influences and a diverse musical background, Two Fresh’s sound is difficult to describe but impossible to ignore. Built on a foundation of instrumental hip hop, their music seamlessly incorporates elements of sampling, a tight low end and catchy synth lines, with a strong beat always at the cornerstone.
On stage, audiences are treated to the addition of Colby Buckler, regarded as one of the strongest drummers in the live electronic music scene today. This energetic trio continues to bring exciting new performances to crowds across the country as their sound naturally evolves. Before twin brothers Kendrick and Sherwyn Nicholls even turned 21, Two Fresh had already landed a label signing with 1320 Records on the merit of extensive successful touring across the east coast. Within a short few months, their first album “The Baker’s Dozen” was released to their devoted fan base.
Fast forward to 2011 and Two Fresh has already graced the lineups of multiple major US festivals including SXSW, Electric Daisy Carnival, Wakarusa, Starscape and North Coast. Alongside fellow producers Jables and Bookworm, Two Fresh established the Lab Coat beat collective in the musical hotbed of Asheville, NC. Together Two Fresh and Labcoat bring a new presentation and sound to electronic music in the Southeast region.
Make sure to get Two Fresh’s sophomore debut album “Air Mail,” available now on Elm and Oak, 1320 Records, Itunes, Boomkat, and Bleep.
Marvel Years (a.k.a. Cory Wythe) is an up-and-coming 19-year-old musician out of Burlington, Vermont.
He is an electronic dance music DJ/producer as well as a talented guitarist who is versed in mostly blues
and classic rock. He utilizes all three of these skills to create his soulful original tunes and remixes. His
sound is a unique hybrid breed of EDM that combines a lot of glitch, retro-funk, soul, jazz and hip-hop. It
has a pleasant feel to it that is far more developed than one might expect of a teenager just starting his
career. Often compared to Pretty Lights, Marvel Years has smooth funky sounding music on lock, and
his releases are primed and ready for you to forget your troubles and enter into a happier state of mind.
Marvel Years' sophomore EP appropriately titled Nowhere But Up is slated for release on April 9th
through Gravitas Recordings. It will be available for free download. "Only If It's Right," released on
March 26th, is the first single off the forthcoming EP.
Dream Big was his debut EP and released in November 2012, also through Gravitas Recordings. It has
been received very well to a widespread demographic and gained Marvel Years' YouTube channel
almost 100,000 views so far.
"This 19 year-old producer has been at it for a short while but his production alongside
his creativity is a winning combination. Spreading a more chilled, groovy vibe, this set is
sure to please." –"Dangerous Wolf" at Be The Rave regarding the Dream Big EP.
Aside from releasing his all-original hits on Dream Big, Marvel Years has also released two original
singles as well as two remixes of retro classic-rock tracks, and these releases have gained attention from
several different music blogs/websites and also seem to be thoroughly enjoyed by those who listen.
These tracks are as follows:
"Depend On" (Original Track) | September 2012
Crosby, Stills & Nash – "Ohio" (Marvel Years Remix) | September 2012
"Where's The Thrill" (Original Track) | September 2012
The Who- "Eminence Front" (Marvel Years Remix) | January 2013
Marvel Years is a talented guitarist with several years' experience. Check out his skills shredding the
guitar (as well as how he seamlessly incorporates it into his electronic music by sampling it) on the
tracks "Check the Vibe", "Depend On", & "Only If It's Right". Marvel Years aims to combine live mixing/
producing with live guitar onstage as a one-man show in the future. This will set him apart from many
other EDM artists today, first with the live production, and also with the addition of playing live guitar all
while synchronizing it together right before the audience.
Marvel Years is a kid with a dream, the talent, and the drive to become a household name. He has found
a good amount of success for such a short time making music. In fact, Cory really wasn't planning on
pursuing music at all as his career until other people started noticing his music he posted online. He
says, "it started off as something that I would do when I had nothing to do and it was just a side project.
It didn't really start to become my main focus until my first few months in college when I started to gain
attention from labels, promoters, etc. and now my music has shifted from something I do on the side to
something I focus on day in and day out." Keep your eye on this fresh artist who is making big moves….
And become marveled yourself.
