Who is Puro Chingón Collective?

Puro Chingón Collective is a Latino art trifecta specializing in happenings, the activation of nontraditional spaces, and art zines. Each individual creative project aims to promote and redefine their cultural identities.

In 2012, the Puro Chingon Collective was created by Claudia Aparicio-Gamundi, James Huizar, and Claudia Zapata. The first— and ongoing— project was the creation of ChingoZine, a Latino art zine. ChingoZine features the original drawings, design, and print work of emerging Latino artists. After an initial invitation to select a movie for a free movie night, the Puro Chingon Collective created the Puro Chingon Social Club. The Puro Chingon Social is a monthly, Latino-themed program that includes interactive film screenings of Latino cult movies. In 2013, the Collective created the VIP area design for the Pachanga Festival and released ChingoZine 3. The Puro Chingon’s recently completed of a public mural in Downtown Austin at Red 7 courtesy of the Downtown Austin Alliance Grant.
