Successful beyond their wildest dreams, the iconic comedy duo Cheech & Chong defined an era with their hilariously irreverent, satirical, counter-culture, no-holds-barred comedy routines. Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong’s phenomenal success began on the stand up comedy circuit which led to 9 hit comedy albums and 8 hit films, breaking box office records, shattering comedy album sales, garnering multiple Grammy nominations and mesmerizing fans for more than a decade.
With nine albums released from 1972 through 1985, Cheech and Chong were nominated for four Grammy Awards, winning the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album with their third album, Los Cochinos, released in 1973. Big Bambu, their second album, was the biggest selling comedy record of all time in 1972 and remained so for many years. Their stunningly successful comedy streak transitioned to film in 1978 with their first movie, “Up In Smoke,” the highest grossing comedy of 1978, topping $100 million at the box office. Cheech and Chong co-wrote and starred in a total of eight feature films together, all directed by Chong.

urprisingly fresh and innocent approach to female centric comedy in nothing short of gut wrenchingly funny! As she confidently struts onto the stage, Shelby appears more like a movie star or super model rather than a comedian, capturing her audience in awe. Within the first 30 seconds she has the crowd laughing uncontrollably. Some might say Shelby Chong is cross between Lucile Ball and Gracy Allen; quick wit with ingenuous innocence! Shelby likes to think of herself as “raunchy innocence” with class! Shelby is no stranger to the stage. She began in home town Vancouver, British Columbia shortly after graduating high school and entered immediately into a career focused in fashion design and modeling. Her career took a turn toward the stage and acting when she met Tommy Chong during auditions for his local improve comedy theater show he produced. That was 1969 and they have been together ever since! In 1971, shortly after Tommy teamed up with Cheech Marin to form the legendary comedy team Cheech and Chong, Shelby, Tommy and Cheech headed to Los Angeles, California where Tommy and Cheech continued to developed their comedy routine and Shelby enrolled in “The Goldy Locks” School of Drama building on her natural talent for acting. During the 1970’s and well into the mid 80’s, Shelby studied acting with Milton Kasalas and Joanne Baron, studied the Mizner Technique and participated in numerous of improve classes in Los Angeles, New York and Europe, continuing to explore her comedic talent and acting skills. During the years that Cheech and Chong toured the globe, Shelby stayed busy expanding into dance, production, the business of entertainment and more acting. As Cheech and Chong made the transition from live performances and recordings to major motion pictures, Shelby quickly became “Tommy Chong’s Favorite Co-Star” on the big screen. Fans remember her as the sexy French Fifi in “Things Are Tough All Over,” the Princess in “The Corsican Brothers,” and the blonde body builder that Cheech got choked up over in “Nice Dreams. She went on to appear in several other feature films, television shows, and theatrical productions such as “Tripwire,” “The Spirit of ’76,” “Far Out Man!,, High Heels and Troma and “General Hospital.” She has been featured on Opra, HBO, Comedy Central, E! Entertainment, “The Howard Stern Show” and the documentary AKA Tommy Chong. In 1986 Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin decided to pursue solo careers. Tommy Chong continued to write, direct and develop programming for film and TV, he concurrently began to began to work on a stand-up show. Shelby took on management and executive producer duties which eventually led to the formation of Chong Entertainment, LLC, an independent production company. Over the next ten years, Tommy and Shelby developed several projects that included film, television and multi-media projects. In 1996, Tommy along with Shelby, embarked on a national stand-up comedy tour playing to sold out comedy theater and club audiences across the United States and Canada. At the start of this project Shelby was manager, producer and M/C! Nightly she would start the shows by introducing Tommy; however as time went on Shelby and Tommy began to expand Shelby’s role. Here natural comedic instinct and passion for the stage intensified. Tommy continued to “write” Shelby into the routines and within 12 months, what started as The Tommy Chong Show, expanded into several unique and very funny productions; The Tommy and Shelby Chong Show, Chong and The Family Stone, Tommy and Shelby.
