Thee Oh Sees
Thee Oh Sees are the latest incarnation of songwriter, singer, and guitarist John Dwyer's ever-evolving pop-folk psychedelic group. Dwyer, who hails from Providence, RI, has been active on the San Francisco indie scene since the late '90s, working with several bands, including the Coachwhips, Pink & Brown, Yikes, Up Its Alive, and Swords & Sandals, among others, and he formed OCS (which is an acronym for Orinoka Crash Suite, Orange County Sound, or whatever Dwyer decided it was on any given day) initially as a vehicle for the experimental instrumentals he was producing in his home studio.
In time OCS morphed into an actual band, and worked under the usual flurry of names, most notably as the Oh Sees or the Ohsees, and eventually as Thee Oh Sees, featuring Dwyer on guitar and vocals, Brigid Dawson on vocals and tambourine, Petey Dammit (sometimes listed as Petey Dammit! on bass, and Mike Shoun on drums.
An air of boozy permissiveness and overstuffed bills blurs the lines between Beerland regulars; OBN III's represents the section of the club's woozy Venn diagram where The Strange Boys, Bad Sports, and A Giant Dog overlap. Representing the uncontrollable proto-punk urges surging beneath the surface of its members' regular gigs, the semi-supergroup cuts an image of a revved-up Stooges—with namesake frontman Orville Neeley capably strutting and stuttering in the Iggy Pop role.
The Blind Shake
The Blind Shake are a detuned, garage-stomp, punk trio from Minneapolis, MN. Two brothers, Mike and Jim Blaha, front the band and play baritone and regular guitar respectively, while longtime chum Dave Roper plays drums.
Known for ferocious live shows and collaborations with psychedelic noise legend Michael Yonkers, The Blind Shake have toured North American basements and bars for several years and have released six albums and a handful of singles.
Old Light is Patrick Finn, Scott DeMay, Garth Klippert, and Todd Roper.
Old Light plays loud, bad rock music. Old Light sings pretty, catchy melodies.
