Top Dawg EnT has introduced a new rapper named Ab-Soul, and he is from Carson, California. He is signed to Jay Rock’s Top Dawg Entertainment label and with him, Kendrick Lamar & ScHoolBoy Q is member of Black Hippy group.
Lawrence Fuller AKA Meta was born January 19th, 1981 in Munster, Indiana and raised in Brooklyn, New York by a working father and a minister mother. Meta was introduced to and involved in music at a very young age. After moving to Minnesota at the age of 8 Meta’s mother became the minister of music at Pilgrim Baptist Church in St. Paul and it is there growing up listening to the Sounds of Blackness where Meta got his musical start. At age 9, he was cast in the Sounds Of Blackness play, “Let The Children Sing.” A quiet, yet outgoing child, the spotlight was both a gift and a curse. He went on to direct the church’s youth choir, The Spirit Of Christ, at age 15. Teaching parts to tenors, altos and sopranos broadened his ear for melodies and it was at that time he learned the importance of stage presence.
Meta first made his name as a rapper in the Twin Cities by becoming a successful battle rapper consistently winning local battles. Since his early days as a battle rapper Meta has become more known for his amazing stage presence, intelligent lyrics, witty punch lines, and his whimsical sense of humor. Inspired by such rap legends as Outkast, Common, Jay-z, and Nas, Meta has an unrelenting drive to take his own music to new levels, perfect his craft and deliver his message through his music.
Over the last year Meta has released a plethora of new and original music. He dropped his first all original EP “H. I. P.” (Happy I’m Present) on his birthday, January 19th, to rave reviews. He then came up with a new extremely ambitious project idea he called Meta May. The idea for this project was to record and release a new song every single day in the month of may, without sacrificing the quality of the music. As if the project idea alone wasn’t difficult enough, Meta’s father, Lawrence Sr., passed away the first week in May. But even that couldn’t stop Meta from completing this daunting project. Meta May was also met with rave local and national reviews and earned him the attribute of top ten albums of the year in the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper. Meta is currently working on his latest project “H. I. P. 2” or “S. H. I. P.” (Still Happy I’m Present) set to drop again on his upcoming birthday January 19th.
Audio Perm announces Permed Out Showcase III
While some artists and groups remain timeless, classic, forgotten or trendy, few continue to progress and grow in the same way that Audio Perm has in the last year. Following the first Permed Out Showcase in December 2011, Audio Perm has not only developed in terms of skill, accomplishment, and recognition, but also in its own essence. Once a group of three beatmakers, Audio Perm has now developed into a group of 10 rappers and producers, and as such has proven itself to be a force to be reckoned with on stage and on tape. Producers Julian Fairbanks, Cory Grindberg, and Taylor Madrigal now join rappers 80H2O, Big Dylan, Bobby Raps, Chantz Erolin, Ramiro X, Unfuh Qwittable, and Yakub to form the budding rap colossus Audio Perm. Between Cory's wild synth aesthetics, Julian's boom bap sensibilities, and Taylor's keen ear for funk-banging anthems, the crew of seven emcees and three produces has put considerable pressure on Minneapolis's eardrums over the past year, adding to the cities already stellar local hip hop scene. Audio Perm has recently released a project entitled WeOutChea, met with positive response and local radio play, performed at Rhymesayers' Soundset festival as well as opening up for TDE artists Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, and Kendrick Lamar multiple times in 2012. On the wake of these shows and productions, Audio Perm has recently received a slot on the annual City Pages "Picked to Click" roster, earning a 'top ten bands' of the last year recognition from one of the most respected media outlets in Minnesota. Additionally, they also performed a set at a sold out First Avenue main room show for P.O.S.'s release show for We Don't Even Live Here. Eager to stand on its-own-two, Audio Perm is slated to debut a slew of new music at The Cabooze for the Permed Out Showcase III on December 22nd. Joined by T.U.S.S. representative and River Life Quality Dry Goods founder Greg Grease and rapper/producer, Long Doe dynamo Mike The Martyr, Audio Perm is slated to perform their biggest show yet, just before Christmas for all the kids who don't supply Santa with their billing information. See you there, Minneapolis.
