This event is all ages
Chichester (UK) born musician Tom Odell caught the songwriting bug early - he's been penning original material since the age of 13. Now 22, Odell has built up a sizeable fanbase, making his TV debut in 2012 on Later… with Jools Holland.
As one of the three artists contending for the Brit Awards' Critics' Choice Category for 2013, it's clear that Odell is already making the right moves in front of the tastemakers that matter. Signed to Columbia, he's drawn attractive comparisons to the late Jeff Buckley; but his man-at-piano posture is also evocative of Chris Martin shorn of Coldplay's rousing roar.
Odell's material to date has veered from strikingly stripped-back troubadour tales to songs that are more work-in-progress than finished product. But given this is a man who signed a deal after just four gigs, a little room for growth is to be expected - as is a considerable blossoming of his popularity.
Things just keep getting better for Melbourne singer-songwriter, Vance Joy. Today, Liberation is pleased to announce that the artist's second Northcote Social Club show has sold out, with a third (and final) show added and on-sale now to keep up with demand. The new show will take place in the evening on April 28, following an earlier matinee performance.
Vance Joy's debut EP God Loves You When You're Dancing is out now. The release of the EP has been met by a wave of praise from all areas of the globe, with local and international audiences falling in love with his stirring song-writing and exquisite vocals.
In addition, current single Riptide continues to win hearts all over, with more than 125,000 plays on Soundcloud alone. The quirky video for the track, courtesy of producer-extraordinaire Dimitri Basil (Flight Facilites, The Grates, The Holidays) has just been unveiled. The upcoming performances will offer many people their first taste of Vance Joy performing with a full band. There are still tickets available for his Brisbane and Sydney shows. But act quickly.
We'll have more exciting news to share soon, so stay tuned!
