Spyder Turner (backed by The Brooklyn Rhythm Band)

Dig Deeper is honored to present one of the powerhouse voices of Detroit soul, Spyder Turner in a rare NYC performance backed by the Brooklyn Rhythm Band.

Inspired by Jackie Wilson and Elvis Presley, Spyder Turner began his career singing in groups in the early 1960s, but when no one else would practice or rehearse up to his standards, he broke off solo.

Although his first solo singles on small local labels Cha-Tok, Fortune, Master and Good Time are treasured by soul DJs around the world as they consistently pack dancefloors – it was his major label breakthrough "Stand by me" on MGM that brought him national attention in the charts, and remains one of the definitive versions of the song.

While his MGM-era material remains some of his best-known, with several singles becoming enormously popular on the UK northern soul scene, Spyder has still never had occasion to perform some of his earliest singles live. This will change at Dig Deeper where Spyder will be performing for the very first time a set spanning his 1960s material.

If you are a fan of Motor City soul, you will not want to miss this once in a lifetime show!

As always, before and after the live sets, Dig Deeper residents DJ Honky and Mr. Robinson will spin all original soul and funk 45s for the dancefloor. The Brooklyn Rhythm Band will be opening the show with their own set of soul classics!
