The Javier Nero Quartet

Javier Nero is a Jazz Trombonist, composer and arranger whose musicianship is already receiving significant recognition. Mr. Nero has won first place in 3 international Jazz solo competitions including the 2011 international Trombone Association’s Carl Fontana Competition, ITA’s 2013 JJ Johnson Competition and most recently the Eastern Trombone Workshop National Jazz Solo Competition.
Javier’s compositions and arrangements have also earned various awards and accolades including Downbeat Magazine Student music awards, participation in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program as well as the Banff Centre’s summer workshop. Javier’s compositions/arrangements have been performed by the University of Miami Concert Jazz Band, the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra, the Michael Dease Big Band and the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra.
Nero currently holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School, a Master of Music from University of Miami in Studio/Jazz Writing, and will be continuing his studies as the Jazz trombone Teaching Assistant at UM as he works toward the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in fall 2014.
