Melvin Van Peebles started his singing career as a beggar on the streets of the Latin Quarter in Paris. However, he began his career before that back in Chicago, at the age of ten selling second-hand clothes to winos out of his wagon … since then among other things he has been involved with; the Boy Scouts, Youth for Christ, the Artillery, cook Merchant Marines, Lieutenant Bombardier/Navigator SAC, Gripman San Francisco cable car, Mexican immigration authorizes, Senegalese Police, Holland Astronomy plus acting for the Het Netherland Comedie.

Melvin Van Peebles is most known as “the godfather” of independent film plus modern black cinema. He has found success in every medium of the entertainment industry – as director, producer, writer and composer…Music (a three-time Grammy nominee) …Television (an Emmy-award winner) … Broadway Aint Suppose to Die a Natural Death and Don’t Play Us Cheap, (eleven Tony nominations)…after forty years his block buster movie Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song remains on Variety’s list of all – time top grossing films.
