Fatbook is an 8 piece Chicago based group of musicians that draws influence from all over into our own soulful sound - Funk, Reggae/Dub, Jazz, RnB, Hip-Hop, West-African and Brazilian music, and a lil’ epic Rock. Our members’ experiences around the world have influenced who we are as people and the music we create. We make music that is fresh, colorful, and rooted in groove.

We formed the group at Lawrence University and won back-to-back “Downbeat Awards” from the jazz world’s Downbeat Magazine in 2009 and 2010. The group has been re-rooted in Chicago since then, and has quickly become a recognized force in the Chicago music community. We have been playing with some amazing friends here and adding to the four member core of Harjinder Singh, Evan Jacobson, Reed Flygt, and Ted Toussaint.

Harjinder, Evan, and Reed are music educators in Chicago Public Schools, and are dedicated to bringing youth up within the world of music, dance, and art. Expression is essential for the human soul, and teaching is essential for the human community. We love sharing what we love.

Fatbook has been developing devoted support while playing all over the Midwest- a sold-out New Years Eve 2011 marked the beginning of this new chapter.
The group has appeared at the Chicago Folk and Roots Festival, SummerFest (the “world’s largest music festival”), The Old Town School of Folk Music ( international series- “World Music Wednesdays”), and shared the stage with international and national acts such as Young Blood Brass Band, Willie-Waldman Project (Snoop Dogg, Banyan, Jane’s Addiction, Santana, and more), Steve Molitz (Playing for Change Band, Particle), Roster McCabe, and Mark Joseph (Down Lo, MJG-Productions).

The Congregation

Classic soul meets rock and roll in this dynamic eight-piece collective from Chicago. The Congregation features Gina Bloom, a singer whose raw and powerful vocals are underscored by Charlie Wayne’s dynamic guitar riffs, the band’s garage rock rhythms and the lively call and response of a three-piece horn section. When it comes to the songwriting, you won’t find any sugarcoated love songs here–you’ll get a little bit of longing and a whole lot of wronging.

While the release of Right Now Everything marks the band’s full-length album debut, The Congregation has been steadily gaining steam since the release of its seven-song EP, Not for Sleepin’, in late 2010. The band was named by the Chicago Tribune as one of “11 Bands to Watch in 2011”, and was recently featured in Paste Magazine as one of “10 Illinois Bands You Should Listen to Now”. The Congregation’s stop-and-take-notice sound earned the group the opportunity to share a triple stadium-bill with Grammy-winning band Wilco and critically acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird as well as another all-star ballpark lineup with the Flaming Lips and Garbage in the summer of 2012.

The Sometimes Family

The Sometimes Family is an upbeat soul band with old-fashioned backup harmonies, strong bass lines, and songs that might remind you of your parents’ music – or your last bad relationship. With spot-on "today" lyrics and a pitch-perfect "yesterday" sound, the band's songs range from mournful and understated to danceable and fun. The Sometimes Family aims to get you out of your seat and onto the dance floor, but also might make you remember those dark times (oh, the heartbreaks and rejections we all know so well…) enough to go order another drink at the bar.
