Hailed by The Strad Magazine (2010) for "playing with style and sophistication" and the American Record Guide (2011) for "combining true rhythmic precision, beautiful intonation, and beautiful articulation with an excellent sense of balance and deeply satisfying musical phrasing," Serafin String Quartet has been applauded by audiences around the nation, including sell-out crowds at repeat performances in New York City's Weill Recital Hall and recent performances at St. John's, Smith Square - London, Philadelphia's Annenberg Center for the Arts and the Delaware Chamber Music Festival.

Serafin String Quartet's 2010 debut CD, on the Centaur label, received critical acclaim and is now widely available in international release. Their next recording is scheduled for release by Naxos in July 2013 and features early chamber works by Pulitzer Prize-winner Jennifer Higdon, who comments, “I am inspired by this amazing CD. What performances - just stunning! The pieces sound even better than they did in my head! Bravo to Serafin!”

Quartet in Residence for the University of Delaware, Serafin String Quartet regularly reaches young musicians through a variety of performances and instructional activities on the UD campus and beyond. The Quartet frequently visits communities, colleges and universities around the US to present concerts, master classes and lecture-recitals. The individual artists of the quartet have been heralded around the globe for concerts and recordings, receiving critical acclaim in the press.

Serafin String Quartet takes its name from master violin maker, Sanctus Serafin, who in 1728 crafted the violin currently played by Kate Ransom. The other members play Testore instruments from the same era, thanks to generous support from Dr. William Stegeman.
