Celebrity Chef Throw-down Series

Celebrity Chef Throw-down Series

Last year, 16 Mile Brewery, Standard Distributing and Meals on Wheels partnered with some of southern Delaware’s top chefs to create a competitive culinary series inspired by their favorite Food Network television shows. The concept began with a basket of mystery ingredients. The chefs were given 30 minutes to prepare and plate a gourmet dish using only the ingredients found in the basket for a panel of judges. An audience of excited spectators nibbling on a gourmet spread, along with some lively background music, helped bring the TV experience to life.

After experiencing the overwhelming success of these charity events, Meals on Wheels and 16 Mile are now bringing them north with the help of Out & About Magazine, Premier Wine & Spirits and World Cafe Live at the Queen. Chefs from participating restaurants will be chosen to compete in front of an expert panel of judges, including a Meals on Wheels representative. The series winners will compete in a final showcase showdown to determine who is the Top Chef of northern Delaware. The winner will then go head to head against the southern champion to see who will be crowned the Throw-Down King or Queen of the First State.

This is the second event in the four-part series and will take place on Monday, May 20 with live music, a variety of 16 Mile beers, and Premier wines showcased in addition to The Queen’s full bar. All proceeds from these events will be donated to Meals on Wheels Delaware.

Current restaurant partners include: Two Stones, Chelsea Tavern, Cantwell’s (Ashby group), Ulysses, Walter’s, Toscana, Ernst & Scott, Kildare’s, Stone Balloon, Cafe Gelato, 2 FatGuys American Grill, Home Grown Cafe, Ubon and of course, World Cafe Live at the Queen. More to be added soon!
