Miracle of '86

Miracle of '86

Some history: initially called "Delusion," Miracle of 86 was formed in 1994 on Staten Island by Kevin Devine (vocals/guitar), Christian McAllen (bass/vocals), and Joey Martin (drums).

Despite covering four Nirvana songs in a nine-song set at the (now long gone) Rock Palace in May of that year, the band somehow still managed to eventually be accepted & embraced by the SIHC scene, releasing two 7"s and cassette demos before its members had reached college age.

Mike Robertson (guitar/vocals) joined in 1999, right after the band recorded & released its self-titled debut via Long Island's Fadeaway Records. Wider regional touring & a frigid Canadian tour followed, as did the addition of Mike Skinner (drums) in 2001. It was this lineup that recorded & released Miracle's 2nd full-length, Every Famous Last Word, in 2003 via Lakeshore Records in the US & Defiance Records in Europe.

The album was received to critical acclaim and local excitement, including sold out shows with bands like Rival Schools, The Promise Ring, Desaparecidos, Rainer Maria, Rilo Kiley & Cursive, and was followed by successful tours in the US & Europe, with Sorry About Dresden & The National Anthems, respectively.

In September of that year, Miracle basically broke up. The band toured Europe a second and final time in August of 2004, and played its last show at Sin-E on Manhattan's Lower East Side in September 2004 before reuniting in January 2013 for a Hurricane Sandy benefit on Staten Island that sold out in 6 hours.
