From gritty basements to the world’s biggest festival arenas, the genre of dubstep has come quite a long way. But with a whole new generation of “EDM” fans waving their glow sticks to ever more ridiculous drops and wobble bass lines, the origins of what once was a true revolution in sound seem to have been forgotten by many. Red Bull Music Academy pays tribute to what is arguably the most influential form of electronic dance music of the past decade, with a night of sub-rattling edutainment courtesy of Skream, his former mentor Hatcha, DMZ mastermind Mala, and the mighty Plastician. Come meditate on bass weight, take a bite off that Big Apple, and travel FWD>> to the past with classic tunes from ten years of dubstep and beyond. It’s South London inna di area!

Skream (born Oliver Dene Jones, 1 June 1986, West Wickham, Bromley, London) is an English dubstep record producer based in Croydon. One of Dubstep's first and most prominent producers, he has played an important role in the genre's development.

Mala is one of the scene's most popular producer. Hailing from London, he has half of the duo Digital Mystikz. In the summer of 2008, he was chosen to headline the night portion of the Sónar Festival in Barcelona.

Chris Reed, also known as Plastician, is a grime and dubstep DJ and producer from Thornton Heath in the London borough of Croydon. Plastician has played a role in the popularity of the genre thanks to his participation in the Rephlex Grime compilations, his primetime pirate radio shows and his recent BBC Radio 1 Residency slot. In addition to his worldwide DJ schedule, Plastician has released records on labels such as Rephlex Records, Soulja, ROAD, Slimzos, A.R.M.Y. and Southside Dubstars. His musical style connects east London grime to the south London dubstep scenes. Plastician also runs his own label; Terrorythm Recordings.

Hatcha is Croydon's answer to Moodyman and has over 18 years of DJ experience under his belt. Following a job as A&R man and shop hand at the legendary Big Appple Records, Hatcha became the first main DJ behind the now worldwide recognised Dubstep genre. He also mixed the very first " "Dubstep Allstars" compilation (and volume 4 alongside Youngsta), making his name as the Godfather of Dubstep.

Going on to DJ all over the world and release on some of the genres leading labels, Hatcha holds his weekly radio show on Kiss FM alongside Crazy D and was the first DJ to host a commercial radio show based soley around Dubstep.

With 2010 promising to be even more successful with the launch of Hatcha's new Sin City label and events alongside fellow Dubstep legend N Type , a host of big gigs already confirmed, as well as remixes, orginal productions and some big collaborations, Hatcha has and will continue to firmly cement his name in music history.
