The Giraffes (Record Release)

The Giraffes

"The Giraffes are a cult band from Brooklyn that has been leveling crowds with their signature mixture of rock, punk, metal and surf since 1996. A well-earned a reputation for mayhem has followed the band from the start. Their guitarist was shot in the leg outside of a White Castle late one night in Brooklyn after being accosted by an off-duty fire marshal with an itchy trigger finger. The bullet is still lodged in his knee. Their singer has suffered multiple Sudden Cardiac Death events. He has a defibrillator implanted in his chest which has erroneously shocked him on stage. During a show at Chicago’s legendary Double Door, it sent 700 volts directly into his heart 3 times in 30 seconds. He finished the set.

The band is set to release its 8th full length studio album, FLOWER OF THE COSMOS August 2, 2019, playing their RECORD RELEASE Saturday August 3rd at Union Pool with Beechwood & the Chest High Fires."

Gordon Lawrence: Vocals, Guitar
Isa Tineo: Drums
Andy Manzanares: Bass

Beechwood is an original rock and roll group from NYC formed in 2012. Carrying the torch of such infamous bands like The Stooges, MC5, and the New York Dolls, Beechwood's music stems from a tradition originated in good ol' fashioned juvenile delinquency. The trio consists of Gordon Lawrence, Isa Tineo, and Andy Manzanares. Lawrence plays and sings with a mix of the sensitivity of artists such as Alex Chilton or Elliott Smith, with the visceral aggressiveness of the Raw Power-era Stooges. Tineo matches Lawrence's style, playing drums with a style that often leaves hands bloodied and drum heads dismembered. And bassist Manzanares the quiet one of the group, leaves people in awe over the authority he demonstrates over his instrument, all the while wondering whether he's a boy or a girl.
