Watch & Listen
Journeying through fire, water, and air in search of the ultimate musical flavor since 2015.
Humbalaya strives to break down the genre barrier, blending sound and sensation into one tasty dish that is perfect for hungry humans, extraterrestrials, and sprites alike.
Humbalaya, along with our intergalactic companions, Tomato Dodgers, founded the DIY venue The Void, and an independent label for creation of all kinds, VoidLife Records, in 2015. Together we have helped transform the College Park music scene into one of creative abundance, and opened a portal for bands from all around the globe to reach a unique and engaged audience.
Additionally, the VoidLife Records family has helped Humbalaya curate two of our own festivals in the sweet green of western Connecticut called “Shermfest.” Many more to come!
We are looking to embark on our first extended tour this summer, and hope to share our sound with as many beings as possible - on Earth and beyond.
Nag Champa Art Ensemble
Primarily based out of Washington, D.C., Nag Champa Art Ensemble is about organic sounds and textures. Fusing elements of jazz, soul, electronic, Go-Go, and African Rhythms, there’s always a sense of the human element, even though many compositions are conceived on a laptop. Comprised of musicians of many different disciplines, the Ensemble relies on the power of improvisation, developing their unique sound through workshops and jam sessions. This practice of “Shedding” originates from their experience in the worlds of Avant Garde Jazz and Experimental Hip Hop. Nag Champa likes having an open conversation with music, finding common threads and themes through color and texture. The Ensemble’s power is in its intangibility, best experienced live, in order to feel and understand the overarching sonic impact.
Since 2013, Maryland hip-hop artist Stretch Dynamo has been making waves in the local music scene. His first mix tape “The Wake Up” put him on the map as an artist to be reckoned with, gaining him a dedicated following, and leaving his fans eager to hear more. Drawing inspirations from artists like Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and Andre 3000. Stretch’s unique style, flow, and sound are what separate him from other local DMV rappers.
After a brief musical hiatus to focus on his education, Stretch graduated from the University of Maryland in 2018, with degrees in both philosophy, and economics. During his senior year, he rekindled his passion for music and started writing and recording his 2018 EP “Pimpzilla 06”. Collaborating with local producers from the terrapin beat society, and friends who he has been making music with since the beginning. Stretch started to perfect his sound and create original music that is unlike anything else out today.
Shortly after the release of his first EP, Stretch Dynamo began working on his debut album, “Universe’s Bastard” set to release on May 4th 2019. “Universe’s Bastard” is a 10-song album that tells the story of a young artist trying to claim his place in the universe, inspire others, and be the best rapper in the game.
Now a college graduate, and a rising local rap star, Stretch Dynamo has been performing shows locally on a regular basis, and even taking his talents to SXSW. He has his eyes set on breaking out of the local music scene, and plans to spread his music worldwide.
