Max Byrne is a producer out of Brisbane, Australia who is making chilled electronic music under the name Golden Vessel.
The 20 year-old songwriter is already creating music at a level of professionalism that many artists strive to reach after working away at their sound for many years. His smooth electronic arrangements of down-tempo beats feature elements of hip-hop, trap and soul, all laced in a pristine lo-fi sheen.
Max used to think he was narrow minded when it came to music, but as his tastes continued to develop and widen, it led to the discovery of synthesizers and the many different styles of electronic music. The idea of music production being an actual form of art really opened his eyes to a whole new world of musical tastes, influences and sounds. He began researching into how some of his musical inspirations created their music, then taking this information and making it work for Golden Vessel.
“I want to convey in my music everything I love about music. Whether it’s incorporating different genres into one song, or different processes and homages to different times” – Max Byrne
Golden Vessel kicked off 2015 with an incredible new single called ‘Control’, which saw him working with Caleb Hodges from Australian band Art of Sleeping. He then released his second single for the year, titled ‘Borrowed Time’ it featured the stunning vocals and lyric-work of Brisbane singer/songwriter Tiana Khasi. Shortly after this release Golden Vessel joined the Mammal Sounds management family and really started to focus on making a career out of music.
In 2016 Golden Vessel released quite an impressive 6-track debut ep called ‘Before Sleep EP’, which saw him working with some very talented Australia artists such as Lastlings, Tom Eggert (of MTNS), OKBADLANDS, Abraham Tilbury and Woodes.
The ep’s three singles received premieres with Rolling Stone, THUMP and Billboard, and they each won the support of the team over at Triple J with airplay on main radio and Unearthed, as well as being made Triple J Unearthed’s Feature Artist in May. He was then invited to play the Triple J Unearthed showcase stage at BIGSOUND 2016, which lead to a partnership with New World Artists for bookings & tours within Australia/Asia.
Golden Vessel then kicked-off 2017 in strong form, signing his first record deal with Exist Recordings (founded by The Kite String Tangle) for Australasia, and shortly after released his debut single with them titled ‘Tell The-Girl’ featuring his friend Emerson Leif on vocals. This single was added to full rotation on Triple J and won the praise and admiration of online media & audiences all around the globe.
In June 2017 Golden Vessel released his next single ‘Shoulders’ which featured his good friends elkkle & Mallrat on vocals. This song was also added to rotation on Triple J and has since been received extremely well by his domestic & international audience. This single also came with news of his second ep which is titled “Right/Side” and will be seeing its release in September 2017.
Indie electronic artist Instupendo floats into earshot with original downtempo compositions that listeners say they turn to when they feel, or want to feel, a certain way. Simultaneously euphoric and melancholy, his distinctive sound has been described by Dancing Astronaut as “something akin to taking Tycho’s work, incepting it into a dreamscape, and slowing it way down”, while The Deli Magazine called it “lucid while out of focus; a silken and ethereal logic operating somewhere in the space between trap and ambient.”
Like many of his peers, Instupendo got his start as a pre-teen on Soundcloud, organically building a fanbase and network of collaborators before venturing onto commercial streaming services in 2016. Within months, his single “Beauty Unit” was featured on Spotify’s Fresh Finds and subsequently charted on Billboard’s Spotify Viral 50. Successive singles, including ”Falling”, “Light Lock”, and “Comfort Chain” secured additional playlist placements and blog attention.
2017 saw Pigeons & Planes naming him an essential rising artist to watch, and Cosmo’s Midnight tapping him to remix their hit “History”. The resulting minimal emotional ballad transformed the funky R&B original. Instupendo followed up with his debut EP “Friend of a Friend”, featuring collaborations with artists Lontalius and Benny Sings. Nest HQ dubbed the project “an emphatic assertion that Instupendo’s time has arrived.” The 17 year-old producer concluded the year with a remix of Grammy-winning remixer RAC’s “Unusual feat. MNDR” which promptly charted at #1 on Hype Machine’s remix chart and landed atop Apple Music’s global Today’s Chill playlist.
Instupendo explored exciting new directions within his signature sound palette on his 2018 sophomore EP, "Faces I Know" -- featuring Hype Machine #1 "Boy", and New Music Friday selection "Fleur feat. Teen Daze" -- and his Pitchfork-'What's Good'/KCRW ‘Top Tracks’-endorsed remix of Rostam's "Half-Light feat. Kelly Zutrau". He racked up time on the road as well, opening for Shallou, Digitalism, Eevee, Rostam, George Fitzgerald, Ryan Hemsworth, Giraffage, and Snail Mail in Brooklyn, Philly, Montreal, Boston, LA and Washington DC.
2019 launched a new chapter with the release of “50-50 feat. Instupendo” on collaborator Toro Y Moi’s “Outer Peace” LP, followed shortly thereafter by his first original music in nearly a year: “Persona”, a song that arose from his participation in a campaign with Urban Outfitters and Teenage Engineering to launch TE’s OP-Z synth. His latest song, ‘Cinderella’, is the first single from his forthcoming ‘Boys by Girls’ EP. It’s the first track to feature his own vocals, marking him as singer-songwriter-producer.
Musician from Amsterdam based in California.
