Fitz & The Tantrums

Fitz & The Tantrums

Led by songwriter Michael Fitzpatrick, Fitz & the Tantrums brew up a retro sound inspired by Motown and Stax Records. Fitzpatrick initially formed the Tantrums as a neo-soul solo project, having purchased an old church organ, and found that it helped inspire his songwriting. While recording a solo EP, he recruited an old college friend, James King, to add horn arrangements to the material. The lineup grew from there, with the Tantrums eventually becoming a co-ed septet. Songs for a Break Up, Vol. 1 marked the group's first release in 2009, and Fitz & the Tantrums headed to South by Southwest the following year, stirring up some industry buzz in the process. In 2010, the band returned with its first full-length effort, Pickin' Up the Pieces, featuring the single "MoneyGrabber." In 2013, Fitz & the Tantrums delivered their second studio album, the Tony Hoffer-produced More Than Just a Dream.

With their latest album 'Soul for Sale', SIRES has quite the fresh collection of diverse music. It is a refreshing reminder that rock n’ roll can be both brash and heartbreakingly seductive.

The record is a bit of an anomaly in these modern times. Sires’ soulful croon is deeply rooted in the pre-70s American songbook, while still somehow managing to blend modern Indie Rock in with the music feeling very direct and immediate. “When we set out to make this album we wanted to make something that was classic, that had a timeless quality, but still felt like a modern record."

SIRES may show their appreciation for bygone eras on 'Soul for Sale', but this band is definitely writing songs for this very moment.
