This event is 21 and over
In September 2013, EasyFriend frontman Eric Brown turned in his drudging day job for a 100 sqft Lazy Daze RV, shifting his complete focus to creating and sharing his art. Over the next two years, Brown blazed trails from coast to coast, playing hundreds of shows and surviving financially through daily street performing. In January of 2016, Brown wrapped up his 2 year adventure with a series of shows in Los Angeles.
Shortly after an unexpected burst of creativity, Eric was introduced to engineer/producer Matthew Faulkner. There could not have been a better match, as the two finished the entire debut EasyFriend album in just 2 weeks.
EasyFriend has since played sold out shows at all major East Los Angeles venues including, The Satellite, The Echo, The Hi Hat and Resident. 2019 is set to be a promising year for the group, with monthly single releases, coast to coast tours and a flood of high quality video content.
"LA-based Good Witch breaks hearts and lights fires with their dreamy mood-pop. Conjuring up shades of Lykke Li, Alvvays, and Garbage, they bridge the gap between rock and pop with sophisticated ease and confident swagger. Slinky bass, anthemic drums, distorted guitars, shimmery synthesizers, and cinematic strings come together in singable indie rock songs with a lush edge that are at once disarmingly vulnerable, unapologetically sexy, and fearlessly honest.
The latest EP, Double Life, is available everywhere you stream or download music."
Blending sweet vocals with serious guitar chops, Christina Apostolopoulos’ music provides an emotional and authentic journey through the folk, rock & jazz genres. Born in Toronto and raised in Santa Barbara, Christina grew up listening to the influential songwriting of Jackson Browne, Paul Simon, and other 70’s greats. She made the decision to commit her life to music when she applied and was accepted with a scholarship to the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston. Although her major at Berklee was Guitar Performance, she was also recognized for her songwriting talents and was as a finalist in songwriting showcases every year she attended. In 2013 she released her first EP, a mix of solo acoustic covers & originals recorded in two days in an apartment in Los Angeles.
After graduating and relocating to LA, she has spent time working as a guitarist in various bands & sessions for artists including Georgia Nott of Broods and Kimi Recor of Lone Priestess. She recently performed at WFSU Fest in downtown Los Angeles, sharing the bill with Kimya Dawson and other female-fronted groups. In 2018 she released her debut full-length album, The Only Thing I’m Good At.
MAWD is the moniker of California musician Madeleine Mathews. Citing contemporary acts such as The Head and the Heart, The Staves, First Aid Kit, and the Alabama Shakes as influences, MAWD’s sound gravitates towards an eclectic mix of genres including indie folk, folk rock, retro rock, cosmic Americana, with a touch of pure rock n’ roll. The soulful, textured timbre of MAWD is diverse and ranges anywhere from a breathy and sultry folk/blues vibe to a powerful Janis Joplin-esque/Karen O. belt. Her vocals perfectly imprint upon the sonic foundation laid by quivering electric guitar, haunting harmonies, classic acoustic folk rhythms, southwestern inspired americana bass lines, and full percussion. While her strong suits lie in singing, songwriting, and lyricism, Madeleine plays piano, guitar, ukulele, bass, accordion, and some banjo, as well.
Born and bred in Northern California, Madeleine made her mark around her hometown of Placerville by playing her original songs at weekly local open mic nights. Recently graduated with a BA in Music (focusing in music industry), Madeleine found a community in her college’s (California State University, Chico) music department and blossoming local scene while fronting and writing for numerous bands. Winning local singer/songwriter competitions and playing at all of Chico’s top venues, including two sold out shows at the renowned Laxson Auditorium (capacity 1,200) (for an Abbey Road Tribute Show) which has pulled artists and speakers ranging from Brian Wilson, Mavis Staples, Gloria Steinem, and many more, Madeleine is no stranger to performing and putting on an amazing show.
Now recording under the pseudonym MAWD, Madeleine is working with Roger Gisborne of Los Angeles based record label Sound x 3 and The Cave Studio owner/producer/songwriter Josiah Mezzaschi (Deap Vally, Built to Spill, Rilo Kiley, Kate Nash, The Jesus and the Mary Chain) to refine her sound. She has recently released her debut self-titled EP (listen here on Spotify) on May 12,2017 which was mastered by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, The Shins, The Kills, Beck). With less than a year under her belt promoting herself as MAWD, Madeleine has already toured all over Sweden for the “Across the Pond Tour”, played countless shows across California including a sold out show at The Hotel Cafe with Larkin Poe, The Hi Hat, Sofar Sounds, Gibson Center (opening for Robby Krieger of The Doors), Youbloom Festival, Springboard Festival and has many more big shows booked in LA over the next couple months before heading to SXSW this Spring. She has been interviewed by various newspapers, blogs, and radio station, been featured on KCSN 88.5 LA Buzzbands Hour multiple times, KCSC, and KZFR Radio as well as in multiple indie blogs, Instagram music blogs, and featured twice on the indie Spotify playlist blog Indie Happy Hour. BuzzbandsLA recently named her one of the top bands to look out for in 2018. She has recently moved to Los Angeles, CA and in that short time already started making a name for herself with interest from established songwriters, bookers, producers, and more. MAWD has a new EP in the works due for early Summer 2018.
