The Southern Noir Film Hour

The twin premieres of two locally produced, independent short neo-noir films Cheat Proof (directed by Edith Snow) and Going Down Slow (directed by Eryk Pruitt). A short Q&A with cast and creators follow the screenings. We will begin the event with a musical set by North Carolina musicians Swedish Wood Patrol.

Edith Snow (aka Meredith Sause) is an actor/filmmaker/musician living in Chapel Hill, NC and Atlanta, GA. She has worked in the Triangle area for the last two decades. Last year, she toured with Hidden Voices’ production of To Buy the Sun: The Challenge of Pauli Murray playing over 30 characters in the 2-hour show. She has toured with the National Theater of the Deaf performing in both spoken English and ASL. Television credits include: Homeland, Turn Washington’s Spies, One Tree Hill. Edith plays Claire in Durham-based, sci-fi/LGBTQ web series Frequency. Keepsake, her first narrative-fiction short film, screened at 19 small film festivals around the country. Cheat-Proof is her second narrative short. Edith sings/writes in the lounge-noir band, The Drowning Lovers.

Cheat Proof

CHEAT PROOF tells the story of Edie and Josh, who meet in a diner to discuss their impending infidelity. What begins as a list of rules to assist their navigation of this path, soon morphs into a series of confessions intended to tamp the swelter of their desire. In this darkly comedic affair of the heart, the audience witnesses truths and is compelled to make the decision for themselves.

Eryk Pruitt

Eryk Pruitt is a screenwriter, author, and filmmaker. He is the author of the Southern crime novels Dirtbags, Hashtag, and What We Reckon, which was nominated for the 2018 Anthony Award. His short fiction is collected in Townies and Other Stories of Southern Mischief by Polis Books. He is the writer and co-host of the popular true crime podcast The Long Dance. Going Down Slow

GOING DOWN SLOW tells the story of a young, married couple at a crossroads in their relationship who must put aside their differences to bury a hobo.
