WIMBASH Philly 2019

Synonymous with Doug Wimbish, Doug's personal venture, WimBash, continues to be both a vision and a mission. WimBash, as a community and family based, musical and educational festival has redefined how we look at pro-active involvement in making change. The event has established its name by leveraging the passion and talents of professional musicians by connecting them with groundbreaking programs in music, culture and quality education. WimBash features Doug playing with a number of world-class collaborators, as well as select local bands, providing the opportunity to see musicians, who more often play large venues around the world, in a much more intimate setting. WimBash is unique in that it brings together an eclectic group of music genres under one roof, utilizing the local talent alongside well-known artists while working together with a local foundation or organization in giving back directly to the community.

WimBash, founded by legendary Grammy award winning rock band Living Colour's bassist Doug Wimbish, initially started in 2004 as a welcome home/ birthday party held at Sully's Pub in Hartford, CT for his close friend and fellow Sugar Hill Rhythm Section bandmate Skip McDonald. The name "WimBash", as it the event became to be known, came one year later. During his many travels abroad, Doug became quite used to misspellings of his last name...often "Wimbush". At one point, while on tour in Germany and upon checking in at a local hotel, Doug found his last name to be misspelled as "Wimbash". Enjoying a laugh over another variation of his surname, Doug thought to himself what a perfect name to use for a party that he hosts...WimBash! Hence, the birth of the "WimBash" name.

Over the years, WimBash has developed from the initial get together with family, friends and musicians to a highly anticipated event and music festival series, anchoring itself in the communities it visits. The WimBash has become an annual event at a number of destinations upon the request of organizations, sponsors, fellow musicians and fans. Doug and his production company, NovaSound Studio, have taken the WimBash Music Festival Series on the road to cities in North America, Europe and the Dominican Republic. While maintaining the grass roots, organic and community based nature of the event, WimBash has been fortunate to work with organizations including The DREAM Project, The School of Rock, The Miami Design Preservation League and the Backbeat Foundation. Highly memorable WimBash events were presented at Industry trade shows such as NAMM and Frankfurt's Musikmesse. WimBash has also seen itself expand as an event where youth are invited to participate in interactive music clinics hosted by the world renowned musicians who join together at the WimBash events. WimBash musicians have devoted their time and energy supporting Doug's belief and mission - empowering youth and encouraging creativity through the opportunity of education and mentorship. Currently, development of a Doug Wimbish/ WimBash scholarship fund for music education is underway.

The impact and community involvement that WimBash fosters resonates with life-long friendships and partnerships established. After meeting the students from the Fort Washington, PA School of Rock for the first time at the April WimBash>>Philadelphia 2012, Doug became an instant friend and mentor. Doug's relationship and alliance with the students continues, with the students having participated in the production, promotion as well as the performance of the WimBash>>Hartford 2012 the following August. Plans are underway for those same students to return to Hartford with their instructors and families for an encore performance at WimBash>>Hartford 2013 where they will join rock band Living Colour.

WimBash continues to grow in popularity attracting musicians from around the world to the WimBash Family. Five-time Grammy Award winner Ms. Lauryn Hill surprised fans in Cabarete, Dominican Republic as a special guest of WimBash>>Cabarete 2012 and The DREAM Project.

Grammy award winning rock band Living Colour has supported Doug over the years at several WimBash events and is slated to be the headlining band at the 2013 edition of WimBash>>Cabarete and WimBash>>Hartford. Finnish singer-songwriter and composer superstar Tarja Turunen as well as producer extraordinaire Arthur Baker joined the celebration during WimBash>>Miami Beach 2013.
Since the inaugural WimBash in Hartford, CT in 2004, featured WimBash Music Festival artists have included Ms. Lauryn Hill, Living Colour, TM Stevens, Dave Eleffson (Megadeth), Skip McDonald (Little Axe), Tack>>Head, Jungle>>Funk, Head>>Fake, Bernie Worrell (Parliament-Funkadelic), Desiree Bassett (Cirque du Soleil), Big Sam Williams (Big Sam's Funky Nation), Khris Royal & Dark Matter, Ivan Neville, Eric Gales, The Help, Dr. Madd Vibe, Doug Pinnick (King's X), The Chops Horns (Sugar Hill Gang), Stevie Salas, Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Freakbass, Bernard Fowler (The Rolling Stones), Corey Glover (Living Colour), Will Calhoun (Living Colour), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Black Stone Cherry, Allan Harris, Christian Howes, Jesse Jones Jr. and George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob). It is the goal of Doug Wimbish and NovaSound Studio to continue to bring WimBash into the global market, creating a musical collaboration of artists that join together to have fun while using their multi-faceted talents to raise awareness and much needed funds that benefit organizations directly serving to educate our youth. With the help of the many musicians and volunteers who donate their time and energy, their passion and talent, WimBash continues along the path to helping the next generation of artists and musicians reach their dreams. Inspiring young musicians as well as each other..facilitating, exploring, encouraging, challenging and offering opportunity...family, togetherness, friends...is key to the heart and soul of the Wimbash Music Festival Series.
