Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Ace of Cups in Columbus, OH. It's the official pre-party for MELTED. Featuring JJUUJJUU, Heaven's Gateway Drugs, The Harlequins, and DJ John Clift. Presented by Jackie O's.
JJUUJJUU is a rotating ensemble of domestic & international collaborators, wrangled by Los Angeles based musician, Phil Pirrone. He began his career as a touring musician at the age of 15, playing bass. In 2011, Pirrone borrowed an SG and a DL4 and began his exploration of recording looped based music. He later brought song ideas to life with the rhythmic companion of friend and then collaborator, Andrew Clinco (aka Drab Majesty mastermind Deb Demure). Around the same time Pirrone launched the Moon Block Party and Desert Daze festivals, and Space Agency Booking. By then, a veteran of multiple bands and several years of touring, he shifted much of his attention and vision to organizing festivals around Southern California and booking North American tours for an artist roster that includes SUUNS, Acid Mothers Temple, Ulrika Spacek, Follakzoid, L.A. Witch, Holy Wave, Imarhan, Khun Narin, and more.
Heaven's Gateway Drugs
Heaven’s Gateway Drugs is a counterculture cult rock band hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, a rust belt city best known for its abundance of churches and strip clubs. Despite being born in a location that couldn't be farther from a psychedelic epicenter, Heaven’s Gateway Drugs creates a unique combination of freakbeat, west coast psych, mod, and eastern drone to create a sound that is just at home today as it was in 1968.
This description only addresses part of the total experience that is Heaven’s Gateway Drugs. The group is led by Ben Carr, an enigmatic, psychedelic Pied Piper of sorts who entrances audiences with his movements and urges those in attendance to become one with the band. Remember always, "you are Heaven's Gateway Drugs."
The Harlequins are an experimental, psychedelic rock trio hailing from Cincinnati, OH.
Evolving out of the home recordings of songwriter Michael Oliva, the group formed with the meeting of bassist Alex Stenard in 2006. They were later joined by drummer Rob Stamler in 2008 cementing the current lineup.
The Harlequins are known for their energetic live performances and experimental light shows incorporating elements of 50's and 60's rock n roll with garage, surf, punk, and kraut-rock.
The Harlequins have released five albums independently and have been a regular fixture at South by Southwest, Bunbury, and Midpoint Music Festivals. In 2011 they were handpicked by The Black Lips for a feature on Noisey.com.
After touring slowed down following 2013’s ‘Sex Change’, The Harlequins signed to dizzybird records and spent 2015 writing and recording their debut LP for the label. 'One With You' was released on June 25, 2016 via dizzybird records. The first single "Not Yet Dead" received heavy airplay from WNKU and other national college radio while the group toured across the country in the summer and fall. The second single, Step Inside, was accompanied by a music video (featured on Punk News.org) by long-time collaborater Andrew Spohn (LA)
