Kan Wakan Residency

2220 Beverly Blvd
Los Angeles, CA, 90057
This event is 21 and over
Kan Wakan is Gueorgui Linev, the producer, film composer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose critically acclaimed and Billboard-charting music dissolves the genre-breaking electronica of Massive Attack, Air, Bonobo and Zero 7 into a bottomless sea of 20th century minimalism, psychedelic soul and ambient atmosphere.
The upcoming tour follows on the heels of Kan Wakan’s 2 new singles ahead of the new album, ‘I Would’ and ‘Molasses;’ both entering the Top 5 on Hype Machine charts and garnering significant airplay on BBC Radio 1 & 6, as well charting in the Top 10 on CMJ stations across the country. ‘Molasses’ in particular has sparked tremendous buzz, named “Today’s Top Tune” by KCRW, the track was synced on Oprah’s OWN Network show ‘Queen Sugar,’ aired Nov. 30th, and was licensed for a Dior Spring/Summer Ad.
2017 will mark a new chapter for the LA-based Bulgarian-born musician who was recently named in the LA Weekly as "one of the top 10 young songwriters in Los Angeles". Having produced and worked with the likes of Moses Sumney and Thundercat and scored his first feature film “Dead Draw”, it was time to incorporate a few collaborations of his own. With triple LP ‘Phantasmagoria’ soon on the way, Kan Wakan’s upcoming work incorporates guest vocalists and collaborations into an immersive melding of organic and electronic production mixed in with the orchestral flourishes of the Sofia Philharmonic orchestra.
The upcoming new album is rounded out with Kan Wakan’s signature cinematic soundscapes that explore the space from where ‘Moving On’ left off.
Neo-soul, or as some call it, future soul, both describe an insurgent scene in its nascent stages; a nebulous amalgamation of syrupy groove and electronic textures. Los Angeles
based vocalist/producer SAIGO embraces the fluidity of the genre, interlacing organic musicality with a diverse palette of beats, all with an undercurrent of introspection and social consciousness.
His breakout single, “The Other”, successfully captured the attention of the R&B/beats community, garnering recognition from Pigeons and Planes as one of their “Best New Artists”, as well as airplay on BBC Radio and placement on Spotify’s “Alternative R&B”
playlist. His ongoing collaborations with producer Kan Wakan have also been successful, reaching #1 on Hype Machine and entering BBC and KCRW rotation with the single “Still Feather”.
Balancing perspectives absorbed through a peripatetic life on four continents, SAIGO shares lyrical insights from romance to philosophy, distilling complexity and conflict into eccentric sonic tapestry. At the center of it all is a voice that is at once sensitive, inquisitive, and daring.
Jessica Childress is an LA-based singer/songwriter reminiscent of the golden age of classic soul, with an enormous voice that combines traditional R&B with a rock n' roll energy. SInce her national music debut on Season 4 of NBC’s The Voice, she’s opened for Charles Bradley, The Family Stone, Patti Labelle, Allen Stone and performed at SXSW, Sunset Strip Music Festival, Long Beach NYE, and Bottlerock Napa 2017 - including an appearance with Michael Franti during his set.
Jessica's debut album, Days, was produced by Callum Connor (Anderson .Paak producer/DJ), Alex Elena (Alice Smith, Citizen Cope) and Topher Mohr (Mayer Hawthorne/guitarist). The first single, “Far Away”, was released on SoulTracks.com and debuted on Apple Music (#2) and iTunes R&B Hot Tracks. The video for “Starting Today” premiered on Atwood Magazine in August 2017. Days, the album, is slated for late Fall 2017 release.
