Bruce Molsky, Allison DeGroot, Stash Wyslouch
With Bruce Molsky, Allison DeGroot, and Stash Wyslouch in the house all afternoon, we just had to offer an afternoon workshop. This is a players' workshop so bring your instrument! The trio will talk shop for about 20 minutes and then folks will break off by instruments for an hour, then regroup to play all together.
Bruce Molsky is "one of America's premier fiddling talents" (Mother Jones) and a twice-Grammy-nominated artist on fiddle, banjo, guitar and song. His new collaboration with Anonymous 4, 1865 - Songs of Hope and Home from the American Civil War, was released this year to rave reviews. Molsky is also a special guest on legend rocker Mark Knopfler’s new CD, Tracker, and is recording his 3rd album with Andy Irvine & Donal Lunny's supergroup Mozaik this fall. No Depression called Bruce’s most recent solo CD If It Ain’t Here When I Get Back, “an album from an absolute master.” Molsky is Berklee College of Music's Visiting Scholar in the American Roots Program, and is the go-to guy for the next generation of fiddlers.
Molsky is joined in this brand-new trio, Molsky’s Mountain Drifters, by banjoist Allison de Groot (The Goodbye Girls, Oh My Darling), who brings wide-ranging virtuosity and passion for old-time music, and guitarist Stash Wyslouch (The Deadly Gentlemen), one of bluegrass’ genre-bending pioneers, who got his start in metal bands before immersing himself in roots music.
"Bruce Molsky is one of those great players who 'gets it': has all the links to the past but is happy not to be chained to it " - Mark Knophler
"Molsky is easily one of the nation's most talented fiddlers...he transports you ... geographically, historically, and most of all emotionally" - Mother Jones
"It is no exaggeration to say that Bruce Molsky is one of the greatest American fiddlers of all time. His playing is mesmerizing and transporting, and best experienced live" - WBUR (National Public Radio Boston)
"An incredible power of history and tradition in his vocals" - Linda Ronstadt
ABOUT THE PARLOR SESSIONS
On assorted winter Sundays, we welcome American roots musicians into the Parlor Room for a concert, a break for hot soup, and an all-comers' jam. So bring your instrument with you. These Parlor Sessions are our antidote to the dark of winter. They're a little like home, if home is a houseful of wicked great musicians. The Parlor Sessions are sponsored by Goat Peak Strings, the Easthampton shop with rare, vintage, and handmade instruments; and with generous donations from Captain Jack's Roadside Shack, Bread Euphoria, Hungry Ghost, and Florence Pie Bar. Tonight's Session is also sponsored by the Fiddle Orchestra of Western Massachusetts
