Spawned at the Universal Church of Love and Music Funk Festival, brand-spankin'-new funk trio, Headtronics, gave funk fans a taste of their collaborative efforts this past April. Named by legendary funk bassist Bootsy Collins, Headtronics consists of three of today's best touring funk musicians, including Freekbass (7 time Cincinnati music award winner), turntablist extraordinaire DJ Logic, and keyboardist Steve Molitz (Particle, Phil Lesh and Friends).
After a mind-blowing on-stage jam session, the chemistry between these three musicians was undeniable. A band would be born. "It turned out to be one of those magical musical moments, so we decided to play some full shows together," said Freekbass. Funk and electronica fans everywhere should keep an eye and an ear out for Headtronics, one of the most exciting new projects to hit the scene in years.
A DUO BY THE NAME OF WAX FUTURE HAS BEEN CAPTIVATING LISTENERS AROUND THE WORLD WITH A REFINED FUNK DRENCHED, HIP-HOP DRIVEN SOUND. THEIR EP “MAKE ME FEEL AGAIN” TAKES LISTENERS ON A IMMERSIVE MUSICAL JOURNEY, BLURRING THE BOUNDARIES OF GENRE. TRACKS LIKE GRIME PIECE SHOWCASE THE ADVANCED SAMPLE COLLAGING AND PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES OF PRODUCER CONNOR HANSELL PAIRED WITH THE GUITAR MASTERY OF KEITH WADSWORTH, WHILE TRACKS LIKE “A LONG JOURNEY INTO NIGHT” SHOWCASE THE STORYTELLING AND SONGWRITING THAT WAX FUTURE HAS COME TO BE KNOWN FOR.
WAX FUTURE’S SOPHOMORE RELEASE OPENED UP BIG DOORS FOR THEM AS THEY BEGAN TO TAKE THE NATIONAL STAGE WITH OPENING SUPPORT SLOTS WITH ARTISTS LIKE BIG GIGANTIC, OPIUO, PRETTY LIGHTS, TIPPER AND MORE. THE PHILADELPHIA DUO HAS CULTIVATED A DEDICATED AND LOYAL FAN BASE, THAT HAS BEEN SELF PROCLAIMED WITH THE NAME “WAX MOB”. THE MOB BRINGS THE SAME PASSION TO THE DANCE FLOOR THAT WAX BRINGS TO THE STAGE, AND THEY ARE KNOWN TO TENACIOUSLY REPRESENT WAX FUTURE. WHEN PERFORMING LIVE THE DUO ALSO FEATURE’S THE VISUAL ARTISTRY OF JAMAL RAB, WHO BRINGS YET A DEEPER LEVEL OF SENSORY ENJOYMENT, CREATING A ETHEREAL AND CAPTIVATING VISUAL EXPERIENCE, WITH TOUCHES OF LIVE RECORDED FOOTAGE AND VINTAGE ANALOGUE STYLE FX.
THE PHILADELPHIA DUO CONTINUES TO GAIN MOMENTUM WITH MULTIPLE SOLD OUT PRETTY LIGHTS PRE-PARTY/AFTER PARTY SHOWS, INCLUDING NEW ORLEANS, COLORADO AND PHILADELPHIA PERFORMANCES AND STRONG FESTIVAL PLAYS INCLUDING CAMP BISCO, ELEMENTS, AND PSYCHEDELIC SLEEPOVER. THE BOYS NEWEST EP “SOURCE CODE”, SET TO RELEASE IN SEPTEMBER 2018, IS THEIR MOST AMBITIOUS EFFORT YET, SHOWCASING THE GROUPS DEDICATION TO THEIR CRAFT. “SOURCE CODE” FEATURES A MIX OF HEART FELT FEELERS AND EXPERTLY CRAFTED BANGERS, SURE TO CAPTIVATE LISTENERS OF ANY GENRE. THE FIRST SINGLE FROM THE SOURCE CODE EP “STYLE LIKE THIS” WAS RELEASED BY THEUNTZ.COM ACCOMPANIED BY A VIDEO CREATED BY GREG ELLIS, BEST KNOWN FOR HIS WORK AS PRETTY LIGHTS LIGHTING DIRECTOR. WAX FUTURES SINGLE “CENOTE” HAS REACHED OVER 300,000 PLAYS ON SPOTIFY, AND THEIR RELEASE “FNK JNT” WITH BIG BEAT/ATLANTIC RECORDS IS QUICKLY GAINING SERIOUS TRACTION.
"Wax Future’s name mirrors their sound. Vinyl records are colloquially called “wax”, and in the studio the duo fill their music with their own organic instrumental samples. The duo’s rendition of the blues, jazz, rock or funk is then throttled into the future with melodic synthesizer work and crisp, hard-hitting drum tracks. Their production style is progressive while also harkening back to original experiments into electronic production by conventional musicians i.e. Pink Floyd.
Wax Future makes live electronic music with tasteful improvisation and deep roots in hip-hop and soul."
