LAREDO IS SCARLET MORENO, TEXAS BORN SINGER & SONGWRITER, WHO TAKES HER NAME FROM HER STRANGE AND BELOVED HOMETOWN ON THE BORDER OF MEXICO. THE LA BASED ARTIST IS PROUD TO PRESENT HER DEBUT SOLO EP, “THELMA,” EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY RUTGER ANSLEY ROSENBORG OF SAN DIEGO BASED PROGRESSIVE SOFT ROCK BAND, THE LULLS. BEFORE EMBARKING ON A SOLO CAREER, SCARLET WAS LEAD SINGER OF LA DESERT ROCK BAND, FLOWERGLASS.
“THELMA,” A DIVE INTO THE WELL OF MORENO’S INFLUENCES, FROM COSMIC COUNTRY TO STRAIGHT SEVENTIES ROCK N ROLL, WEAVES HER OWN EXPERIENCES IN AND OUT OF IMAGINATIVE DREAMSCAPES, SONGS OF LOVE AND SONGS OF REVENGE, OF GREAT LOSS AND OF GREAT HOPE. NAMED AFTER HER PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER, THE EP BRINGS TO LIFE WHAT SHE CONSIDERS A PART OF THE WORLD THAT SHE HAS BEEN CULTIVATING THROUGH OTHER ART FORMS, NAMELY FILMMAKING, FOR OVER FIVE YEARS. TO TAKE A LISTEN IS TO TAKE A CINEMATIC DRIVE DOWN AN UNKNOWN, YET ALL TOO FAMILIAR HIGHWAY.
Mikey Carnevale of The Frights
A couple of months after graduating from high school, Mikey Carnevale (vocals/guitar) and Richard Dotson (bass) got together as The Frights to play a one off 30 minute set as sort of a joke. The feeling they got from the crowd in their hometown of San Diego inspired them to become a "real" band almost in spite of themselves. Along the way, they recruited Marc Finn (drums) and released You Are Going To Hate This (produced by Zac Carper of FIDLAR) in February 2016. Jordan Clark (guitar) added to the band's musical prowess in the ensuing year of touring around North America. The fearsome foursome has now teamed up with Epitaph Records for the August 24th release of their new album, Hypochondriac (with Zac Carper again at the helm). 2018 looks to be a year filled with drinks, laughs, tears, miles in the van and on a plane and plenty of hours on the stage for The Frights.

LYRICAL INSPIRATIONS: Records. Smart people with great ideas. I can't think of one inspirational moment that sent me over any edge though. I wish I had a Purple Rain moment to talk about. I wish I had a basement with a piano and a purple bike. You bet your ass. I write and record everything in a bathroom. It's what I've always done at the end of my nights. I swear to God, I sit on the can and play guitar all night.
When I was younger I remember this kid telling me he wrote songs on a cliff outlooking the ocean. He said he felt some "real shit" out there. It was nice to think that it happened that way for people.
FAVORITE SONGWRITERS: I think we can all agree on the greats. People like Springsteen, Roger Waters, Phil Ochs, Tom Waits, KRS-1, Leonard Cohen, Woody Guthrie, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Billy Bragg, David Berman, John Lennon, Willie Nelson, etc. They all have the ability to make you and your whole crew say, "damn." But what really intrigues me are the questionable songwriters. People like John Prine, Raekwon the Chef, Robyn Hitchcock, Randy Newman, Rod McKuen. The people who seem to hit you in a way that even your crew can't understand. The songwriters you're almost embarrassed to love are the best….
