Andy Just and Friends

Andy Just is one of the hardest working musicians on the blues scene today. Andy's formative musical years were the 70s when he became hooked by the then thriving Bay Area blues scene. Along with artists like Michael Bloomfield, Elvin Bishop, and Charlie Musselwhite, who had moved to the San Francisco area, there also came the Charles Ford Band featuring the three Ford brothers. The young Just and his good friend Chris Cain were so affected by all they were hearing that they formed a blues band together and began to make their own impact. Andy fronted his own band through most of the 80s and did considerable sideman work with artists like Fenton Robinson, Luther Tucker, John Lee Hooker, Larry Williams, and Lowell Fulson. In 1989 he replaced Mark Ford in the Ford Blues Band and though he continues to do work on his own projects he has remained the solid "front man" for the Ford Blues Band ever since.

His recording credits include five LP/CD releases of his own as well as many other recordings with artists such as Chris Cain, Luther Tucker, and Lowell Fulson. Andy can also be heard on many TV commercials and movie soundtracks.

Without a doubt, Andy is the most powerful harp player to come along since James Cotton, and while he can emulate Sonny Boy Williamson one minute and Charlie Parker the next, the fact is that Andy Just is an original, an innovator, and enthralling to catch live or on disk.

Andy's Blue Rock'It Records recording titled "Don't Cry" has been praised for its musical virtuosity and innovation. His new release, "Play That Fast Thing" is a real "tour de force" that should serve as a wake up call to those who have not yet heard of Andy Just.
