20th Anniversary of sunn O))) and Southern Lord Records

The Power Of The Riff Festival

*

For eighteen years, Sunn O))) have been challenging the way we think about music. From 1999’s The Grimmrobe Demos to 2009’s Monoliths And Dimensions to 2015s’: Kannon, core members Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson have forged connections between the worlds of Metal, Drone, Contemporary Composition, Jazz and Minimalism with startling results while remaining true to the eternal principles of volume, density and weight.

A bastard child born of the mid 90s punk/metal/hardcore movement, Washington, DC’s DARKEST HOUR combine the passion, energy, and soul of punk/hardcore with the style, speed, vengeance and fury of melodic speed/thrash/death metal.

DARKEST HOUR have helped defined the entire New Wave of American Metal sound as one of the pioneers of modern metal/core. A sound that gave the metal and hardcore/punk world the revitalization it surely needed. This style blended the raw, hardcore punk of the 80s, with the Scandinavian death metal of the 90s and forged a sound that would later become the template for modern metal.

Since their inception 21 years ago, Darkest Hour has released 8 studio full lengths (via 11 different record labels), appeared in major motion pictures and US television shows, video games, and have toured the world extensively covering 6 of the 7 continents.

While many of their contemporaries have decided to hang it up, Darkest Hour is still charging ahead with invigorated spirit. In 2016, the same rabid fan base that helped propel the band into the national spotlight helped push them to reach another milestone by crowd funding the album.

The band then partnered with California based Southern Lord Records to help complete the release and distribution of this fan fueled release!

2017 will see the release of said album, and the world tour that will follow. This 9th studio album produced by underground legend Kurt Ballou (Coverge), at his Godcity complex, is destined to be a Metal classic.

Drawing from the bands 21 years’ experience, this album is set to solidify Darkest Hour’s legacy as a metal power house. Raw as all hell, musically complex, melodic, yet cutting with razor blade precision, Darkest Hour’s 9th full length record, Godless Prophets and the Migrant Flora is fierce and hungry for blood.

Scream was a hardcore punk band from Virginia, USA, formed in 1981 by brothers Pete (vocals) and Franz (guitar) Stahl, Skeeter Thompson (bass), and Kent Stax (drums). The band was later joined by second guitarist Robert Lee "Harley" Davidson. After the release of their 3rd album, "Banging The Drum", Stax departed and was replaced by Dave Grohl. The band continued for a few more years before splitting in 1990. Dave Grohl went on to find major success with Nirvana and the Foo Fighters. Pete Stahl has also performed with a number of bands, including Wool (2), Goatsnake and Earthlings? and collaborated with Sunn O))) or The Desert Sessions. He was also road manager for Foo Fighters or Queens Of The Stone Age. Franz Stahl was also a member of Wool (2) and, briefly, the Foo Fighters. Kent Stax played drums with Oi! band The Suspects.

Scream has reunited for several reunion shows in the Washington, DC area over the years (with Stax in place of a very busy Grohl, although the latter has made some guest appearances).

Straight out of Louisville, David Christian Pajo is a musician. PAJO is a new name in the world, but Pajo has been involved in much great music over the course of the last two decades. He first played out in the mid-1980s and went on to instant infamy with the group Slint. During the 1990s, Pajo played with King Kong, The Palace Brothers, Stereolab, Royal Trux, The For Carnation, Matmos, Tortoise and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. In 1995, Pajo started the M franchise, issuing a single and a split single in short order. As Aerial M, he released several singles, a self-titled album and the remix album Post Global Music. As Papa M, he produced Live From a Shark Cage, Papa M Sings and Whatever, Mortal.

Xasthur is Scott C since '96. There's no need to rehash old Xasthur songs, these acoustic ones are plenty dark, and sometimes they're not.

ENTRY started as a pet project between partners Sara Gregory and Clayton Stevens (Touché Amoré) in 2013, to create hardcore punk music in the vein of bands like Minor Threat, Discharge and Career Suicide. In 2013 the band recorded and released their first demo tape. In 2014, another demo was recorded in Los Angeles, entitled “Encraty”. Both the original demo and “Encraty” were put onto a self released cassette for a east coast tour the same year. In 2015, the band officially relocated to Los Angeles and with a new lineup featuring Elliot Babin (Touché Amoré, Warm Thoughts) and Daniel Pouliot (Ancestors, Horse the Band) and the band began work on a new EP called “No Relief”.
