Chicagoan Ezra Furman’s second solo album ‘Day Of The Dog’ has finally gained him the attention that he deserves. Two BBC 6 Music sessions with Marc Riley and Marc’s enthusiastic support have helped spread the word.
Extensive touring with his band the Boy Friends in the UK and Europe in 2014 has built up a dedicated live following and a growing reputation as one of the most exciting live acts around. Ezra’s emotional honesty, howling intensity, frailty and humour combined with the bands honking rock’n’roll have proved irresistible.
‘Ezra Furman has made an album of classicist rock’n’roll that never feels like an exercise, but a living, breathing piece of self expression.’ The Guardian
‘Where has Ezra Furman been hiding? A bratty, ragged take on New York Dolls, Spector-era Ramones and E Street Band carnival rock. An unexpected gem.’ 8/10 NME
Ezra Bell was founded around the irreverent and introspective songwriting of Benjamin Wuamett. Carving a wide path through the musical spectrum, Ezra Bell brushes up against folk, jazz, blues, rock, pop, and R&B.
Formed in Portland in late 2013, Ezra Bell was a changing cast of characters before settling into it's sound. Bassist Darren Moore, drummer Tom Trotter, horn player and arranger Aaron Mattison, and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Asay provide an often unsettling backdrop for the playful and sometimes vicious vocals of front man Benjamin Wuamett. According to the Willamette Weekly, “Ezra Bell flirts with a broader palette of country, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll and swing, and does so admirably, with an outlaw’s shamelessness.”
Ezra Bell has released three EP's, Don't All Look Up at Once, 2013; We Came by Canoe, 2015; and Farewell Griffin, 2016. A full length debut is set to be released spring of 2018.
