Lean on Pete

Directed by: Andrew Haigh, 2018, US, 121 minutes, Rated R. Fifteen-year-old Charley Thompson arrives in Portland, Oregon, with his single father Ray, both of them eager for a fresh start after some difficult times. Charley finds acceptance and camaraderie at a local racetrack where he lands a job caring for an agiing Quarter Horse named Lean On Pete, and bonds with his owner and jockey. Charley discovers that Pete has a potentially dark fate, prompting him to take measures to ensure that Pete has a more promising future as they embark on a journey across the new American frontier. They experience adventure, never losing their irrepressible hope as they pursue their dream of finding a new home. Named one of the Best 10 Films of the first half of 2018 by Entertainment Weekly. Nominee/winner of several international film festival awards. In English, with closed captions.
"A coming-of-age story that unfolds gradually, Lean on Pete takes place in what the writer Michael Harrington called “the invisible land” of the poor, a reality too little seen in American movies.
