Mary Stallings

Mary Stallings was born and raised in San Francisco’s Western Edition which was the epicenter for black music in the 30’s - 60’s. She started singing gospel at the age of seven. She later found her way to jazz, singing with her Uncle Orlando Stallings’ big band at twelve. That gave her recognition in the city, making her a sought after talent in the Bay Area. As a child performer, she was groomed by many big band leaders of the era. By the time she was eighteen she was on her way to working with such luminaries as Louis Jordan, Dizzy Gillespie, Cal Tjader, Count Basie, Billy Ecskstine and Wes Montgomery. Mary has recorded a series of albums with great jazz players such as Cal Tjader, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Monty Alexander, Eric Reed, Geri Allen, Gene Harris and many others. She has traveled the globe, spreading the language of love through the idiom of jazz, America’s classical music.
