Trochee Trochee [hard “ch”] germinated on a detuned SG in a record high Tucson, Arizona summer. Four years on, it persists in Brooklyn as Alex Whelan’s primary conduit for geographically-specific platonic love songs that side-eye traditional verse-chorus constructions. Trochee Trochee self-records and self-produces music and accompanying 16mm film visuals using entirely analog processes prior to the digitization of a finished product.
"Ever since I could remember I wanted to grow up to be a cartoonist musician. The cartoon part I figured out, but the music part of me has been relatively obscure until now. My father taught me to play guitar when I was nine years old and I have been writing songs ever since the first chord. Even then I figured if I played Bob Dylan songs and memorized Bjork lyrics they would sink into my subconscious. I have a wide range of influences from Patsy Cline to Devo, but I'm not sure if my music sounds anything like those to be honest. All I do know is that it is my dream to make music, and for people to enjoy it."
