Ezrah pays immaculate attention to the most important part of the music: the voice. It’s all in the details. Decked in black trousers, velvet shoes, detail-collared shirt, wide brim felt hat, and the stage is set. The lights go out inducing the spotlight. This is Ezrah.
Influenced by gospel and R&B, his voice soars over the piano, at times floating on air and at other times striking with force. Ezrah’s lyrics find a middle ground between candid and elusive but always strikes as bold and assertive. Fashioned to effortlessly bring the listener to a safe haven, he appears as two-sided figure; he can croon sorrowfully, but he also demands attention with gut punching belts. He uses melisma and arpeggios to emphasize meaning, making his music even more complex.
He has cultivated an understanding that aesthetics help shape and cultivate people's perceptions. He embraces the idea of setting a personal standard that differentiates oneself from a common idea or stereotype. In this sense he is like a chameleon - he finds ways to shape-shift and adhere to rules of many sonic principles, while creating his own. He yearns to make his mark by paving the way for others to create their own sense of belonging. His music is a reflectance of his own sort of ideal. Our society values an unrealistic idea of perfection but Ezrah knows that true perfection comes from within.
