The Music of Wes: A Live Musical Concert Celebrating the Soundtrack of Wes Anderson

“Few directors share Anderson’s ability to dig crates and choose the perfect songs to soundtrack their films…from punk to psych-rock to acoustic Bowie covers tenderly sung in Portuguese, Wes has done it all” (NME). We celebrate Wes’ amazing soundtracks with the Music of Wes Concert. The concert will have 2 sets and feature over ten Charleston musicians playing tracks from all 8 of Wes Anderson film including songs from The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Cat Stevens, The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Elliott Smith, Simon & Garfunkel, Devo, David Bowie, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Hank Williams, Francoise Hardy, & More! The concert will also feature Duda Lucena playing Seu Jorge’s Portuguese David Bowie covers. Kevin Young will be editing footage from Wes Anderson films that will be projected during each song. Lindsay Holler

Lindsay Holler sings and plays guitar. her voice moves onto the sidewalk through a cracked upstairs window on dusky afternoons. it smells you with its tongue, pensively considers, and strikes. In clubs and theatres … its the same. On some occasions it caresses; other times accuses. When amplified it can be seen on the air … then we all drown.

Holler lives in Charleston, South Carolina. She is a singer/songwriter and concert producer. She hails the South as home and has lived in New Orleans and New York; she studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. The music’s current state of evolution is supported by a little twang and a little late-night clarity.

Holler cites influences from the likes of Tom Waits, Gram Parsons, Nina Simone and Neil Young - preferring genre straddlers, categorical misfits and indefinables.

Bill Carson

Musician and educator Bill Carson grew up in Charleston. Since the late 1990s he has had the privilege of working with a great diversity of artists in wide breadth of musical contexts, from underground noise rock experiments and folk musicology to formal chamber concerts and commissions for theatre, dance, and film.

Beattie Porter

Beattie Porter was born in Charleston, SC, to a musical family. As Beattie grew up, she constantly sang with her mom, dad, sisters, and learned to play the mandolin as well as the guitar. Beattie's first gig was open mic night when she was 16 at Arts Bar and Grill but is singing more frequently at the Tin roof, The Tattooed moose and other venues around Charleston. She can be found playing with her dad Edwin Porter, Lindsey Holler, Camille Rhoden, or Erin Kinard. Her musical influences are Bonnie Raitt, Fiona Apple, and The Uncle Walts Band.

Matt Williams

Matt Williams grew up on the Santee Delta. His family used to say they found him in a stump in the woods, which he believed because he grew up surrounded by dense forest. At 8 he wrote his first song “I’m Glad They Found Me” with the refrain “when it’s time for bed, the stump is where I lay my head.” He considers this his most honest writing and that “it’s pretty much gone downhill from there.” As a child he once woke in the car on a dark highway to “Lady in Red”, and instantly weeps when he hears the song today. Matt performs with Solid Country Gold, Charleston’s loudest classic country band, and Honky Cat, which is even louder. He hosts Dancing in the Dark on WOHM Charleston, 96.3FM and lives on James Island with his wife Josephine and their two children.

Lily Slay

Lily Slay has been practicing singing into a hairbrush in front of the mirror since she was five years old. Like smoke and honey, gravel and silk, and even her name itself, Slay’s distinctive voice and perspective are rife with their own contradictions, cultivated from a decade of ashes, heartache, and unrelenting optimism. At age twelve, Lily traded in her hairbrush for an acoustic guitar and decided to try her hand at songwriting, resulting in her signature mix of self-deprecating honesty and soulful delivery. When she was kicked out of boarding school for playing a bracing rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing,” Lily moved to the mean streets of Charleston, busking and playing open mic nights until she was a legal adult. Still vistually unemployable at age twenty-nine, Slay has been flitting around playing demonic vagabond rock and blues with her cousins in The Royal Tinfoil and crooning her folksy ballads to campfire friends ever since.
